Tariq Parvez (born 30 December 1948) is a Pakistani former Police officer and a bureaucrat who served as Home Minister in the Punjab government,only to oversee the general elections held in 2013. [1] He began as a police officer and rose to become the director-general of Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency from 2005 to 2008. After his retirement,he planned to engage in counterterrorism efforts and join a think-tank. [2]
He Joined Police Service of Pakistan in the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1973 and retired in the rank of Inspector General of Police in 2008,from the post of Director General of Federal Investigation Agency,Pakistan. After retirement in 2008,was tasked to establish the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA),Pakistan and appointed its first National Coordinator. In 2013,was appointed as Home Minister,Punjab in the caretaker set up. Presently member of NACTA's committee of experts as well as President,Advisory Board,National Initiative against Organized Crime,Pakistan,a non partisan,independent think tank,based in Lahore. Published a number of papers and reports on CT/CVE. Was member of Police Reforms Committee(PRC) set up,by Chief Justice,Supreme Court Pakistan within the purview of Law and Justice Commission Pakistan.
Pervez completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies from Government College University. Later he completed his MSc in Criminology from Cardiff University and returned to Pakistan to serve the country.
Pervez was appointed the National Coordinator of the Counter Terrorism Authority (NCTA). [3] NCTA's function is to coordinate counterterrorism efforts between FIA,ISI and IB. [4] He faced bureaucratic hurdles in getting the NCTA law draft passed from the Ministry of Interior and the Law Ministry,and eventually resigned over these ongoing obstacles. [5] He officially resigned effective 21 July 2010. [6]
During his tenure as head of CID Punjab he played a major role in eliminating their sectarian network in the 1990s.
During his FIA career,Pervez resolved several terrorist attacks,including suicide bombings in the wake of 9/11. He had a good reputation for integrity. [2]
Under his stewardship,terrorists who had tried to assassinate former President Pervez Musharraf,and who were involved in the Islamabad Marriott Hotel bombing and other high-profile bombings,were traced. Moreover,he prepared a useful book of suspected terrorists. [2]
On 20 August 2007,Pervez was threatened with jail over the disappearance of a Pakistani man,Hafiz Abdul Basit,who was later released. [7] [8]
He was mentioned in the Pakistan national dailies DAWN,The News and Daily Times regularly and also in the foreign media such as the New York Times , [9] TIME Magazine [10] and also in the CTC Sentinel at West Point. [11]
In 2004,he was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan for his efforts in counter-terrorism. [12]
Azam Tariq was the leader of the politico-religious organisation Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan,a Deobandi organization,which was officially banned by the government of Pakistan in August 2001.On 26 June 2018,Pakistan lifted the ban.
Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) or SO15 is a Specialist Operations branch within London's Metropolitan Police Service. The Counter Terrorism Command was established as a result of the merging of the Anti-Terrorist Branch (SO13) and Special Branch (SO12) in October 2006,bringing together intelligence,operations,and investigative functions to form a single command. CTC has over 1,500 police officers and staff,and a number of investigators based overseas and also hosts the National Counter Terrorism Policing Network headquarters.

Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan,renamed to Millat-e-Islamia,is a Islamist organisation in Pakistan,which also functioned as a political party. It broke away from the main Deobandi Sunni organisation Jamiatul Ulema-e-Islam in 1985. Established in Jhang by Haq Nawaz Jhangvi,it was banned by President Pervez Musharraf in 2002 as a terrorist organization under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997. In March 2012,the government of Pakistan banned Sipah-e-Sahaba again. The government of the United Kingdom banned the group earlier in 2001.

The July 2010 Lahore bombings occurred on 1 July 2010 in Lahore,Punjab,Pakistan. Two suicide bombers blew themselves up at the Sufi shrine,Data Darbar Complex. At least 50 people were killed and 200 others were hurt in the blasts. It was the biggest attack on a Sufi shrine in Pakistan since 2001.

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA),commonly called Nacta,is a Pakistani internal security organization responsible for making counter terrorism and counter extremism policies and strategies. It also develops action plans against terrorism and extremism and reviews their implementation. It is mandated to devise a counter-terrorism strategy that should address short,medium and long-term goals and devise action plans for their implementation. It formulates threat assessments with periodic reviews. It advises the Federal Government on making adequate and timely efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.

On 16 August 2015,two suspected suicide bombers detonated explosives at the home office of Punjab Interior Minister Shuja Khanzada in the Attock District village of Shadikhan,80 km (50 mi) from the Pakistani capital of Islamabad. The blasts killed the minister and 18 other people;at least 17 people were injured and taken to hospitals. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ),a Deobandi militant group with ties to Al-Qaeda,claimed responsibility for the attack,and it was later determined that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan was also involved.
On 13 February 2017,a suicide bombing took place on the Mall Road in Lahore,Pakistan,where a group of chemists and pharmacists were holding a protest at Charing Cross in front of the Punjab provincial assembly. According to Punjab Police sources,18 people were killed,including several police officials,and at least 87 were injured.
On 13 July 2018,ahead of Pakistan's general election,two bombings took place at election rallies in Bannu and Mastung.
On 22 July 2018,3 days before general elections,a suicide bomber blew himself near the vehicle of former KPK provincial minister of Agriculture Ikramullah Khan Gandapur in Kulachi,Dera Ismail Khan District,Pakistan. The prime target of attack,Gandapur was brought to Dera Ismail Khan in critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds. Apart from Gandapur,his driver and one of his guards was also killed and three more people were injured. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the assault describing Gandapur's killing of their colleague militants as the motive. The attack was widely condemned across Pakistan.
