The Federal Investigation Agency, responsible for border control, criminal investigation, counter-intelligence and security of Pakistan, is headed by a Director General. It is a highly coveted post and is usually occupied by a Grade 22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan. The Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (DG FIA) reports directly to the Interior Secretary of Pakistan.

The Intelligence Bureau is an intelligence and security agency in Pakistan focused primarily on non-military intelligence. Established in 1947, the IB is Pakistan's oldest intelligence agency. DG IB is usually an officer from the Police Service of Pakistan.

Brigadier Imtiaz Ahmed, SBt, TI(m), also known as Imtiaz Billa, is a retired engineering officer in the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers, and former spy, who served as the Director-General of the Intelligence Bureau from 1990 to 1993.
Masood Sharif Khan Khattak was a Pakistani civilian intelligence officer and the first Director General of the Intelligence Bureau (I.B). He served as the Vice-President of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) under the leadership of Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto. He also led a famous intelligence operation named Midnight Jackals, which thwarted a military coup attempt of the elected PPP government in 1990. He was imprisoned in 1996 by the government of Farooq Leghari where he was charged with launching widespread wiretapping against government officials.

The Fake accounts case is a case being heard by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) under which former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, his sisters Faryal Talpur and Azra Fazal Pechuho, Zardari's aide Khawaja Anwar Majeed and his sons Khawaja Niymar Majeed, Khawaja Mustafa Majeed, Abdul Ghani Majeed, and Ali Kamal Majeed are accused of money laundering through 29 fake accounts registered in Summit Bank, Sindh Bank, and United Bank Limited under people's names who themselves were not aware of those accounts. Others being investigated are Sara Tareen Majeed, Khawaja Kamal Majeed, Khawaja Mustafa Zulqarnain Majeed, and Saima Ali Majeed.
Wajid Zia is a Pakistani civil servant and police officer who served as BPS-22 grade as the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency, from November 2019 to June 2021. He has previously served as the Inspector General of Railway Police. He first rose to prominence when he headed the joint investigation team to probe the Panama Papers case in 2017. He belongs to Tehsil Murree of District Rawalpindi.

The National Intelligence Coordination Committee (NICC) of Pakistan is headed by the Director-General of Inter-Services Intelligence. The overarching intelligence coordination body was given assent by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan in November 2020. It held its inaugural session on June 24, 2021, marking the date the committee became functional.
