Tasnim Nazeer is a British journalist, author and Universal Peace Federation Ambassador for Peace [1] Nazeer became Scotland's first hijab-wearing freelance TV reporter in July 2020. She has written for Al Jazeera, HuffPost, The Independent online, CNN, BBC News Online, The Guardian, TRT World, Middle East Eye and others. [2] [3] Nazeer was awarded The Muslim News Ibn Battuta Award for Excellence in Media 2013 [4] and the FIPP Rising Stars in Media Award 2018 for her work in her capacity as a journalist.

Education and career

Nazeer studied Journalism in 2007 at the University of the Arts London, has an Open University BA Honours degree in English Language and Literature. [5] and a master's degree in International Journalism from Edinburgh Napier University. In 2011 Nazeer was given the Ambassador for Peace Award from the Universal Peace Federation for work in the media. [6] She was shortlisted for the 2014 British Muslim Awards, 2012 Asian Women of Achievement Award in Media and 2011 Muslim Writers Awards Young Journalist of the Year. [7] [8] In 2015 she was a guest panelist on BBC Big Questions. She has been a guest interview on BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Asian Network. [9] [10] Tasnim has also made an appearance on BBC Radio 2 Pause for Thought.

Nazeer has written children's books Allah's Gifts (2012) and Aleena Celebrates Eid (2015). [11] , Muslimah's Key to Jannah (2015) and Islamic Finance: A Practical Introduction (2018). She is an Ambassador for Peace for the Universal Peace Federation, and has freelanced for Al Jazeera, [12] The Huffington Post and Forbes Middle East. [13] [14]

Rageh Omaar is a Somali-born British journalist and writer. He was a BBC world affairs correspondent, where he made his name reporting from Iraq. In September 2006, he moved to a new post at Al Jazeera English, where he presented the nightly weekday documentary series Witness until January 2010. The Rageh Omaar Report, first aired February 2010, is a one-hour, monthly investigative documentary in which he reports on international current affairs stories. From January 2013, he became a special correspondent and presenter for ITV News, reporting on a broad range of news stories, as well as producing special in-depth reports from all around the UK and further afield. A year after his appointment, Omaar was promoted to International Affairs Editor for ITV News. The Yemeni Revolution followed the initial stages of the Tunisian Revolution and occurred simultaneously with the 2011 Egyptian revolution and other Arab Spring protests in the Middle East and North Africa. In its early phase, protests in Yemen were initially against unemployment, economic conditions and corruption, as well as against the government's proposals to modify Yemen's constitution. The protesters' demands then escalated to calls for the resignation of Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Rape in Egypt is a criminal offense with penalties ranging from 15 to 25 years and a lifetime sentence if the rape included abduction. Marital rape is legal. By 2008, the U.N. quoted Egypt's Interior Ministry's figure that 20,000 rapes take place every year, although according to the activist Engy Ghozlan (ECWR), rapes are 10 times higher than the stats given by Interior Ministry, making it 200,000 per year. Mona Eltahawy has also noted the same figure (200,000), and added that this was before the revolution.

Al Jazeera Arabic is a Qatari state-owned Arabic-language news television network. It is based in Doha and operated by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which also operates Al Jazeera English. It is the largest news network in the Middle East and North Africa region. It was founded in 1996 by the then Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
