Tate Snyder Kimsey Architect is an architectural practice located in Las Vegas, Nevada with branches in Reno, Los Angeles, and Shenzhen.

Architecture is both the process and the product of planning, designing, and constructing buildings or any other structures. Architectural works, in the material form of buildings, are often perceived as cultural symbols and as works of art. Historical civilizations are often identified with their surviving architectural achievements.

Reno is a city in the northwest section of the U.S. state of Nevada, approximately 22 miles (35 km) from Lake Tahoe. Known as "The Biggest Little City in the World", Reno is known for its casino industry. Reno is the county seat of Washoe County. The city sits in a high desert river valley at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and its downtown area occupies a valley informally known as the Truckee Meadows. The city is named after Union Major General Jesse L. Reno, who was killed in action during the American Civil War at the Battle of South Mountain on Fox's Gap.

Los Angeles, officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in California; the second most populous city in the United States, after New York City; and the third-most populous city in North America, after Mexico City and New York City. With an estimated population of nearly four million people, Los Angeles is the cultural, financial, and commercial center of Southern California. The city is known for its Mediterranean-like climate, ethnic diversity, Hollywood, the entertainment industry, and its sprawling metropolis.

History

The firm was established in 1960 as George G. Tate & Associates. Bill Snyder joined the firm in 1979 and Windom Kimsey in 1991; Kimsey is currently the firm's president and CEO.^[1]

In 1998 the firm, then known as Tate & Snyder Architects, was honored with the AIA Western Mountain Region Honor Award as the Architectural Firm of the Year. The firm received AIA Nevada awards in 1996, 1998 and 2005.^[2]

Headquarters building

The 11,000-square-foot (1,000 m²) office building of Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects at 709 Valle Verde Court in Henderson, Nevada was built in 1994 and expanded in 1997. In 2006 it became the first building in Nevada to receive LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.^[3] This building has won three AIA Nevada Design Awards in the years 1997, 1996, and 1993.

Henderson is a city in Clark County, Nevada, United States, about 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Las Vegas. It is the second-largest city in Nevada, after Las Vegas, with an estimated population of 310,390 in 2018. The city is part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, which spans the entire Las Vegas Valley. Henderson occupies the southeastern end of the valley, at an elevation of 1,864 feet (568 m).

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is one of the most popular green building certification programs used worldwide. Developed by the non-profit U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) it includes a set of rating systems for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green buildings, homes, and neighborhoods that aims to help building owners and operators be environmentally responsible and use resources efficiently.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), co-founded by Mike Italiano, David Gottfried and Rick Fedrizzi in 1993, is a private 501(c)3, membership-based non-profit organization that promotes sustainability in building design, construction, and operation. USGBC is best known for its development of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating systems and its annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. USGBC was one of eight national councils that helped found the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). The current president and CEO is Mahesh Ramanujam who acquired this role in January 2017 after co-founder Rick Fedrizzi.

Projects

The firm has done multiple projects for Los Angeles International Airport, McCarran International Airport, the Port of Long Beach, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and other schools and government buildings.^[2] The Animal Foundation headquarters in Las Vegas was praised for its "green" features including wind turbines, solar panels, and water recycling.^[4] The company has designed one building in Shenzhen, China, and in 2012 it received a state export grant to allow it to expand its presence there.^[5] In 2011 the company received two awards from the Las Vegas AIA for projects still under development: a port of entry on the United States-Mexico border in San Diego and the Symphony Park project in downtown Las Vegas.^[6]

Otay Mesa is a community in the southern section of the city of San Diego, just north of the U.S.–Mexico border.

Curtis Fentress, FAIA, RIBA, an American architect, is the principal-in-charge of design at Fentress Architects, an international design studio he founded in Denver, Colorado, in 1980. Fentress Architects also has studios in Los Angeles, California; San Jose, California; Washington, D.C. and London, UK.

Symphony Park District of Las Vegas in Nevada, United States

Line and Space is an architectural design firm founded in 1978, by Les Wallach, FAIA, and headquartered in Tucson, Arizona. They have completed projects internationally and are known for their ecologically-sound buildings.

Molasky Corporate Center is a 17-story office and retail building in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The building was developed by Irwin Molasky's company, The Molasky Group. Construction began in 2005, and the building was topped off in July 2006, before opening in August 2007. The Molasky Corporate Center is a green building designed with energy efficient features which earned it a Gold certification from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The Southern Nevada Water Authority is a major tenant in the building, and owns five of the building's office floors.

Edward A. Vance, FAIA, an American architect, is the principal-in-charge of design and CEO at EV&A Architects, a specialty architecture firm he founded in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2006. Vance has been a registered Architect in 19 states and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). He is the current Chancellor of the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.
