French Polynesia is an overseas collectivity of France and its sole overseas country. It comprises 121 geographically dispersed islands and atolls stretching over more than 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) in the South Pacific Ocean. The total land area of French Polynesia is 3,521 square kilometres (1,359 sq mi),with a population of 278,786.

Tāvini Huiraʻatira,also known as Tāvini huiraʻatira nōte ao māʻohi - FLP,is a pro-independence,anti-nuclear political party in French Polynesia. Founded in 1977 as the Front de libération de la Polynésie (FLP),the party has been led since its inception by Oscar Temaru. From 2004 to 2013 it was part of the Union for Democracy (UPLD) coalition.

Gaston Tong Sang is a French politician and is the former President of French Polynesia. He served terms as President of French Polynesia from November 2009 until April 2011,from April 2008 until February 2009 and from December 2006 until September 2007;he is currently the Mayor of Bora-Bora. Until 2015,Fritch was co-president of Tahoera'a Huiraatira,a pro-French political party,before he became president of the newly-established Tapura Huiraatira.
Here Ai’a,also known as Te Pupu Here Ai'a Te Nunaa ia Ora,is a pro-independence political party in French Polynesia. It was founded by John Teariki and Henri Bouvier in 1965 following the banning of the pro-independence Democratic Rally of the Tahitian People (RDPT) by the colonial French government. Supported mainly by rural Polynesians,the party was a significant force in French Polynesian politics from its foundation until the early 1980's,before entering a decline following Teariki's death in 1983. The party is currently led by Gustave Taputu.
Richard Ari'ihau Tuheiava is a French Polynesian lawyer and politician. He represented French Polynesia in the Senate of France from 2008 to 2014,sitting with the Socialist Party. He is now a Member of the Assembly of French Polynesia and a member of Tavini Huiraatira.
Bruno Sandras is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. He was a member of the National Assembly of France from 2007 to 2012,representing the 2nd constituency of French Polynesia,as a member of the Union for a Popular Movement. He was Mayor of papara from 2001 until 2014,when he was dismissed from office after he was convicted of corruption.
Michel Buillard is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. Since 1995 he has served as the Mayor of Papeete. He was deputy of the National Assembly of France for French Polynesia's 1st constituency from 1997 to 2012. In the National Assembly,he was a member of the Union for a Popular Movement. Jean-Marius Raapoto is a French Polynesian educator,academic,politician,and former Cabinet Minister. He has been a major advocate for the Tahitian language,and served as Minister of Education in various governments between 2004 and 2009.
A Tia Porinetia was a political party in French Polynesia. The party was founded in February 2013 by Teva Rohfritsch and members of To Tatou Aia and other small parties. The party was autonomist,and opposed the inclusion of French Polynesia on the United Nations list of non-self-governing territories.
Pierre Frébault is a French Polynesian civil servant,politician,and former Cabinet Minister. He is a member of Tavini Huiraatira.
