Tauhiti Nena (born 13 April 1968) is a French Polynesian boxer,sports administrator,politician,and former Cabinet Minister. He is currently president of the Oceania Boxing Confederation and the Olympic Committee of French Polynesia. He is the son boxer Maco Nena and the father of boxer Tautuarii Nena. [1]
Nena was born in Papeete. [2] He won gold in the 81 kg division at the 1995 South Pacific Games. [3] He then worked as a school teacher at Pomare IV high school. [4]
In 2004 he entered politics,organizing for the Union for Democracy (UPLD) in the 2004 French Polynesian legislative election. [4] He was later appointed Minister of youth and sports in the cabinet of Oscar Temaru. [5] [6] When Temaru returned as president following a confidence vote in April 2011 he was appointed Minister of Education,Youth and Sports. [7] He unsuccessfully stood as a UPLD candidate in the 2012 French legislative election, [8] and in the subsequent by-election,where he lost to Maina Sage in the second round. [9] In 2014 he was one of the UPLD's candidates for the Senate in 2014. [10]
In 2016 he launched the Tau Hotu rau party to advocate for a "third way" between independence and autonomy. [11] The party formed a coalition with the Greens for the 2018 French Polynesian legislative election,but did not gain any seats. [12] [13] He stood as a Tau Hotu rau candidate in the 2017 French legislative election,but was eliminated in the first round. In June 2018 he was convicted of campaign finance violations over the election and barred from office for one year. [14]
He stood for mayor of Papeete in the 2020 municipal elections as head of the Papeete To’u Oire 2020 list, [15] but lost to Michel Buillard. [16] Following the municipal elections he pursued an alliance with Gaston Flosse,and was appointed deputy president of Flosse's new ʻĀmuitahiraʻa o te Nūnaʻa Māʻohi. [17] He was selected as an ʻĀmuitahiraʻa candidate for the 3rd constituency in the 2022 French legislative election,but following a court ruling that Flosse was ineligible for office,decided to stand in the 1st. He was subsequently excluded from the party. [18] He subsequently formed the Hau Mā'ohi Tiama party and contested the elections as a far-right candidate,but was eliminated in the first round. [19]
In the 2022 French presidential election he endorsed far-right candidate Éric Zemmour. [20] When Zemmour was eliminated in the first round he endorsed National Rally candidate Marine Le Pen. [21]
Nena served as president of the Olympic Committee of French Polynesia,until he lost the post in 2001. [5] He was re-elected to the post in 2008, [5] and oversaw Tahiti's preparations for the 2009 Pacific Mini Games in Rarotonga. [22]
In 2016 he was re-elected as president of the Olympic Committee,and oversaw French Polynesia's unsuccessful bid to host the 2017 Pacific Mini Games. [23] In 2017 his election as president was ruled invalid. [24] In October 2017 the Pacific Games Council approved the participation of a boxing squad from Nena's International Boxing Federation-recognised Tahiti Boxing Association,causing the government to officially boycott the games. [25] The boxers competed under the banner of the Pacific Games Council. [26]
In February 2022 he was elected president of the Oceania Boxing Confederation. [2] [27]

Founded in 1977 as the Front de libération de la Polynésie (FLP),the party has been led since its inception by Oscar Temaru. From 2004 to 2013 it was part of the Union for Democracy (UPLD) coalition.
Amuitahiraʻa o te Nunaʻa Maohi,known as Tāhōʻēraʻa Huiraʻatira until January 2022,is a political party in French Polynesia. The party is conservative,pro-autonomy party and anti-independence. It was founded in 1977 by Gaston Flosse,who supports French Polynesia's current autonomy arrangement with France and who led it for over 20 years.
Gaston Tong Sang is a French politician and is the former President of French Polynesia. He served terms as President of French Polynesia from November 2009 until April 2011,from April 2008 until February 2009 and from December 2006 until September 2007;he is currently the Mayor of Bora-Bora. Winfred Édouard Tereori Fritch is a French politician who has served as President of French Polynesia since 2014. He previously presided over the Assembly of French Polynesia on three occasions:from April 2007 to February 2008,from February 2009 to April 2009 and from May 2013 to September 2014. Until 2015,Fritch was co-president of Tahoera'a Huiraatira,a pro-French political party,before he became president of the newly-established Tapura Huiraatira.
Here Ai’a,also known as Te Pupu Here Ai'a Te Nunaa ia Ora,is a pro-independence political party in French Polynesia. It was founded by John Teariki and Henri Bouvier in 1965 following the banning of the pro-independence Democratic Rally of the Tahitian People (RDPT) by the colonial French government. Supported mainly by rural Polynesians,the party was a significant force in French Polynesian politics from its foundation until the early 1980's,before entering a decline following Teariki's death in 1983. The party is currently led by Gustave Taputu.
Richard Ari'ihau Tuheiava is a French Polynesian lawyer and politician. He represented French Polynesia in the Senate of France from 2008 to 2014,sitting with the Socialist Party. He is now a Member of the Assembly of French Polynesia and a member of Tavini Huiraatira.

Michel Buillard is a French Polynesian politician and former Cabinet Minister. Since 1995 he has served as the Mayor of Papeete. He was deputy of the National Assembly of France for French Polynesia's 1st constituency from 1997 to 2012. In the National Assembly,he was a member of the Union for a Popular Movement. In the Assembly of French Polynesia,he is a member of Tapura Huiraatira.

A Tia Porinetia was a political party in French Polynesia. The party was founded in February 2013 by Teva Rohfritsch and members of To Tatou Aia and other small parties. The party was autonomist,and opposed the inclusion of French Polynesia on the United Nations list of non-self-governing territories.
