Ted Dykstra is a Canadian playwright and actor.

Early life

He was born in Chatham-Kent, Ontario in 1961 and grew up in St. Albert, Alberta. [1]

Career

He is a founding member of Soulpepper Theatre Company. [2] His writing credits include Two Pianos Four Hands , Dorian , and Evangeline. His acting performances include Bach in Bach's Fight for Freedom and Ed Broadbent in Mulroney: The Opera , as well as some voice work. Dykstra voices Dad Tiger in Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and Reg in RoboRoach .

In 2003, he formed an independent record label Actorboy Records with Gary Sinise. [3] He was formerly married to Melanie Doane with two children, Theo and Rosy. [3] [4] [5]

Dykstra and his wife Diana Bentley are co-directors of Coal Mine Theatre. [5]

It follows Ted and Richard, two boys who aspire to become famous classical pianists. The play follows their journey from childhood, and as the boys grow older, their competitions and music auditions. Two Pianos Four Hands premiered at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto in 1996, and has since been staged on five continents and has been regarded as one of the most successful Canadian plays.
