The Temple Hills-Marlow Heights Line, designated Route H12, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Naylor Road station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro and Heather Hill Apartment Complex in Temple Hills, Maryland, via the Iverson Mall and the Marlow Heights Shopping Center. The line operates 35 minutes Monday-Friday and 60 minutes on Saturdays & Sundays. Trips are roughly 30 minutes long.
Route H12 operates between Naylor Road station and Heather Hills Apartment Complex in Temple Hills, Maryland mostly along Fisher Road, Temple Hills Road, St. Barnabas Road, and Branch Avenue connecting Hillcrest Heights, Silver Hill, Marlow Heights, and Temple Hills. Route H12 operates daily.
Route H12 currently operates out of Andrews Federal Center division since June 23, 2019. It formally operated out of Landover and Southern Avenue divisions at one point.

Routes H11, H12, & H14 initially started off as streetcar lines in 1939 which operated under the Washington Marlboro & Annapolis Motor Lines Inc. (WM&A) between Federal Triangle in Downtown Washington DC and the Heather Hills Apartment Complex in Temple Hills, Maryland via Iverson Mall and the Marlow Heights Shopping Center. [2] The line mostly operated along Pennsylvania Avenue, Independence Avenue, 7th Street, Branch Avenue, St. Barnabas Road, Temple Hill Road, and Fisher Road. Route H11 would make diversion from St. Barnabas Road to serve the Princeton Estates Apartment Complex in Marlow Heights.
Routes H11 and H12 would operate weekly while the H14 would only operate during weekday peak-hours. All three routes were later converted into bus routes during the 1950s and eventually acquired by WMATA on February 4, 1973. [3]
On September 25, 1978, more than a year after the Potomac Avenue station opened, routes H11, H12, and H14 were all truncated to only operate between Potomac Avenue station and Temple Hills (Heather Hills Apartments), instead of operating to Federal Triangle in Downtown Washington DC. Service to Downtown was replaced by the Blue Line. [4]
On January 13, 2001 when Naylor Road station opened, routes H11 and H12 were truncated even further to only operate up to Naylor Road station and Heather Hills Apartments, instead of operating to Potomac Avenue station . The segment of H11 and H12's routing between Naylor Road and Potomac Avenue stations were taken over by routes 35 and 36. [5] [6]
Route H14 was discontinued and renamed H13. Route H13 would also operate between Naylor Road and Heather Hills Apartments during the weekday peak hours except skipping the diversion into Hillcrest Heights similar to the old H14. [5] [6]
In 2010 during WMATA's FY2011 budget year, WMATA proposed to reroute the H11, H12, and H13 to Carriage Hill Apartments via Curtis Drive during the weekday and Saturday hours in order to replace routes C12 and C14 which were proposed to be discontinued. [7]
On June 25, 2017, weekday peak-hour service frequency was reduced from 20 minutes to 25 minutes. [8] [9]
On September 26, 2020, WMATA proposed to eliminate all route H11 and H13 service, reduce route H12 service to only every 60 minutes, and eliminate most Sunday service to only operate between 11:20 AM and 3:20 PM. Route H11 has not operated since March 13, 2020 while route H13 has not operated since March 17, 2020 due to Metro's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. [10] However on March 14, 2021, route H12 Sunday service was restored. [11]
The Pennsylvania Avenue Line, designated Routes 32 and 36, is a daily Metrobus route in Washington, D.C., Operating between the Southern Avenue station or Naylor Road station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro and Potomac Park. Until the 1960s, it was a streetcar line, opened in 1862 by the Washington and Georgetown Railroad as the first line in the city.
The Connecticut Avenue Line, designated Route L2, is a daily bus route in Northwest Washington, D.C., United States. The L2 operates seven days a week.
The College Park Line, designated Routes 83 & 86, are daily bus routes operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the Rhode Island Avenue Station, which is served by Red Line of the Washington Metro, and the Cherry Hill Park Campground in College Park, Maryland (83), or Calverton (86). 83 is shortened to only operate on short trips between Rhode Island Avenue station and Mount Rainier during early mornings on the weekends. 83 & 86 mainly operate on the U.S. Route 1 corridor between Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast Washington, D.C. & College Park, Maryland. Route 83 trips are roughly 50 minutes long and route 86 trips are roughly 70 minutes long.
The Rhode Island Avenue–New Carrollton Line, designated Route T14, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the New Carrollton station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro and Rhode Island Avenue–Brentwood station of the Red Line of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 20–25 during the peak periods and 60 minutes during the weekday middays and on the weekends. Route T14 trips roughly take 50 minutes.
The Friendship Heights–Southeast Line, designated as Routes 30N or 30S, were daily bus routes operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Friendship Heights station of the Red Line of the Washington Metro and Naylor Road station or Southern Avenue station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. Both lines operated every 60 minutes at all times. Trips were roughly 90 minutes long. This line provided service from Friendship Heights, operating through most of NW and SE DC and ending in Southern Prince Georges County via a one bus ride. Extra services are provided by the 32, 34, and 36 in Southeast and 31 and 33 in Northwest. Service was eliminated on September 5, 2021 due to redundancy.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Highway Line, designated Route A12 is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Addison Road station of the Blue and Silver Lines of the Washington Metro and New Carrollton station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 20 minutes between 7AM and 9PM, 30 minutes after 9PM weekdays and 60 minutes after 9PM weekends. Route A12 trips roughly take 30 minutes. On Sundays, Route A12 is extended to Capitol Heights station replacing a portion of route F14.
The Sheriff Road–Capitol Heights Line, designated Route F14, is a bus route that operates Monday to Saturday that is operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between New Carrollton station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro and Naylor Road station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 30-35 minutes during rush hours and 50 minutes at all other times. Trips are roughly 60 minutes to complete.
The Wisconsin Avenue Line, designated as Routes 31 or 33, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Its main purpose is to provide service to the upper Northwest side via Wisconsin Avenue NW.
The Forestville Line, designated as Route K12, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Suitland station and Branch Avenue station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 15 – 45 minutes during weekdays and 60 minutes during weekends. Trips are roughly 30 – 40 minutes long. There are a few early morning/late night and rush hour trips that only operate between the Suitland Metro Station & Penn Mar Shopping Center.
The Eastover–Addison Road Line, designated Route P12, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the Addison Road station of the Blue & Silver Lines of the Washington Metro and Eastover Shopping Center in Forest Heights, Maryland. The line operates every 12 minutes between 7AM and 9PM and 30 minutes after 9PM. P12 trips are roughly 60 minutes long.
The District Heights–Suitland Line, designated Route V12, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the Addison Road station of the Blue & Silver Lines of the Washington Metro and Suitland station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 30–40 minutes on weekdays and 60 minutes on weekends. V12 trips are roughly 35 minutes long.
The District Heights–Seat Pleasant Line, designated Route V14, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the Deanwood station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro and Penn Mar Shopping Center in District Heights. The line operates every 20–30 minutes during the rush hour, 60 minutes during weekday middays, and 60 minutes on the weekends. V14 trips are roughly 40–45 minutes long.
The New Hampshire Avenue–Maryland Limited Line, designated Route K9, is a limited-stop Metrobus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the Fort Totten station of the Red and Green Lines of the Washington Metro and the Food and Drug Administration in White Oak, Maryland. The line operates every 16-20 minutes during weekday peak-hours only. Route K9 trips are roughly 30 - 35 minutes.
The Benning Heights–M Street Line, designated Route V1, is a weekday peak-hour only bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between the neighborhood of Benning Heights and Smithsonian station of the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines of the Washington Metro. The line runs every 20–30 minutes in the weekday peak-hour direction only. Trips take roughly 55 minutes.
The Benning Road–H Street Limited Line, designated Route X9, is a limited stop MetroExtra bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Capitol Heights station, which is served by the Blue and Silver lines of the Washington Metro, and Gallery Place station, which is served by the Red, Green and Yellow lines of the Washington Metro. The line operates every 15-16 minutes at all times on weekdays only. Trips are roughly 50 minutes long. During weekday midday, Route X9 is shortened to operate to Minnesota Avenue station, which is served by the Orange line of the Washington Metro, which takes 30 minutes. This line provides additional service along the H Street corridor supplementing route X2.
The Ivy City-Fort Totten Line, designated Route E2, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Fort Totten station of the Red and Green Lines of the Washington Metro and Ivy City. The line runs every 20-30 minutes during weekdays, 30 minutes on Saturdays, and 60 minutes on Sundays. Trips take roughly 20 minutes to complete.
The Benning Road Line, designated Route X1, X3 is a weekday peak hour only bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Minnesota Avenue station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro and Foggy Bottom–GWU station of the Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines of the Washington Metro (X1) or Duke Ellington Bridge in Adams Morgan (X3). The line operates every 10–31 minutes during weekday peak hours in the peak direction only. X1 trips are roughly 41 minutes while X3 trips are roughly 45 minutes. All service along the X1 and X3 lines is currently suspended.
The Massachusetts Avenue Line, designated Route N2, N4, N6, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Friendship Heights station of the Red Line of the Washington Metro and Farragut Square in Downtown Washington DC. The line operates every 27 minutes during the weekdays and 40 minutes on weekends. Trips take roughly 45 minutes to complete.
The Oxon Hill–Suitland Line, designated Routes D12 & D14, are daily bus routes operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Southern Avenue station and Suitland station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro. The D12 operates every 20 minutes between 7AM and 9PM and 60 minutes after 9PM while the D14 operates every 24–30 minutes during the peak hours and every 60 minutes all other times. Trips roughly take 60 minutes (D12) or 70–80 minutes (D14).
The Pennsylvania Avenue Limited Line was a limited weekday peak-hour only MetroExtra route that operated between Naylor Road station of the Green Line of the Washington Metro and Potomac Park. The route gave limited stop service to local Metrobus routes 32, 34, and 36.
