Afro-Asian Games

The tennis competitions at the 2003 Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad, India were held from October 25 to October 31 [1] at the SAAP Tennis Complex. [2] The events were held on grass courts.

Contents

All semifinal losers were awarded bronze medal. India was the most successful- it won gold medals in each tennis event. Then-16-year-old and rising Indian star on the professional tennis court, Sania Mirza, was the most victorious, winning four gold medals.

The tennis tournaments at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London were staged at the All England Club in Wimbledon, from 28 July to 5 August. The Shri Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex is a sports complex located in Pune, India. The complex is situated about 15 km from Pune downtown and 5 km from Hinjawadi. Leander Adrian Paes is a retired professional tennis player from India. He is regarded as one of the greatest doubles tennis players. He holds the record for the most doubles wins in the Davis Cup. Paes won eight men's doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. He holds a career Grand Slam in men's doubles and mixed doubles, and achieved the rare men's /mixed double at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships. His mixed doubles Wimbledon title in 2010 made him the second man to win Wimbledon titles in three decades.

Traditional sports like Athletics, Swimming, Ha-du-du, Boli Khela, Lathi Khela are mostly played in the rural areas while foreign sports like hockey, volleyball, handball, golf etc. are more popular among the urban folks. The National Sports Council (NSC) is the governing body to control all the sports federations and councils in the country and is responsible to the ministry of youth and sports. There are a total of 42 different sports federations affiliated with the NSC. Bangladesh Games is the largest domestic multi-sport tournament in the country where athletes and sports teams from all the districts participate.

Switzerland's Belinda Bencic defeated the Czech Republic's Markéta Vondroušová in the final, 7–5, 2–6, 6–3, to win the gold medal in Women's Singles tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics. It was Switzerland's first victory in the women's singles. In the bronze medal match, Ukraine's Elina Svitolina defeated Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina, 1–6, 7–6(7–5), 6–4. It was Ukraine's first Olympic tennis medal.

Tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Mens singles 2020 Olympic tennis tournament

Germany's Alexander Zverev defeated Karen Khachanov of the Russian Olympic Committee in the final, 6–3, 6–1, to win the gold medal in Men's Singles tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics. It was both countries' first medals at the event since 2000, and Germany's first victory. In the bronze medal match, Spain's Pablo Carreño Busta defeated Serbia's Novak Djokovic, 6–4, 6–7(6–8), 6–3.
