Teresa Cheung Siu-wai (Chinese :章小蕙) (born June 10, 1963) is a Los Angeles-based actress and producer. [1] [2] [3]

Chinese language family of languages

Chinese is a group of related, but in many cases not mutually intelligible, language varieties, forming the Sinitic branch of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Chinese is spoken by the Han majority and many minority ethnic groups in China. About 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese as their first language.

Early life

Born in Hong Kong to parents of Shanghainese descent, [4] Cheung appeared in her first advertisement at the age of three. [5] [6]

Shanghai is one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of the People's Republic of China, the largest city in China by population, and the second most populous city proper in the world, with a population of 24.18 million as of 2017. After relocating to Canada at age 15 with her family, she studied at the University of Toronto, majoring in Fine Arts History and English literature. [5]

Career

Despite having no prior experience as a professional actor, Cheung was given a leading role in the 2004 film Colour Blossoms . [5] Writer/director Yonfan stated that she was his inspiration for the film. [5] [8] Cheung received a number of awards and nominations for her role, only narrowly missing out on a Best Actress Award to Zhang Ziyi from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society. [2] [9]

Colour Blossoms is a 2004 Hong Kong art film written and directed by Yonfan, and the third in an informal trilogy of films inspired by Tang Xianzu's The Peony Pavilion. The original Chinese title of Colour Blossoms literally translates as "Peach Colour", a euphemism for sexual desire, one of the central themes in the film.

In 2005, Cheung signed with the China Central Television (CCTV), becoming the first female, Hong Kong-based actress to join the network artist management. [1]

Diamond Trade Center invited Cheung to the Oscars 2006 Diamond Aquifer Suite Event at the Soho House in Los Angeles, making her the first Asian actress ever invited. [7]

Soho House is a museum run by Birmingham Museums Trust, celebrating Matthew Boulton's life, his partnership with James Watt, his membership of the Lunar Society of Birmingham and his contribution to the Midlands Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. It is a Grade II* listed 18th-century house in Handsworth, England. It was the home of entrepreneur Matthew Boulton from 1766 until his death in 1809, and a regular meeting-place of the Lunar Society.

Cheung is credited as an executive producer on Oliver Stone's film, W. , and has a cameo role as the journalist "Miss China." [4] [7] [10]

Personal life

In 1988, Cheung married Hong Kong pop star and actor Kenny Bee. The couple divorced in 1997. [5] [11] [12]

The title refers to Tian Mi Mi, a song by Teresa Teng whose songs are featured in the film. It was filmed on location in Hong Kong and New York City. Leon Lai later commented in 1997 that the story of Li Xiao Jun is somewhat a description of his own life.

This film was screened in competition at the 68th Venice Film Festival on 9 September 2011. The North America distribution rights was purchased by Indomina Group shortly after the Festival. The deal was made between Indomina and the film's sales agent Media Asia Group.

32nd Hong Kong Film Awards

The 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards presentation ceremony took place in Hong Kong Cultural Centre on 13 April 2013. The hosts for the awards ceremony were Eric Tsang, Ronald Cheng, Gordon Lam, Jerry Lamb . TVB, Now TV and RTHK Radio 2 were the live broadcasters of the ceremony, with other networks airing simultaneously across the world.

He rose to prominence after rendering the songs 'Aadi Pona Aavani' and 'Nadukadalula Kappala' from the soundtrack of Attakathi.
