The South Sydney Rabbitohs are a professional Australian rugby league club based in Redfern, a suburb of inner-southern Sydney, New South Wales. They participate in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and are one of nine existing teams from the state capital, Sydney. They are often called Souths or The Bunnies.
The Balmain Tigers are a rugby league club based in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Balmain. Allan Fitzgibbon is an Australian former rugby league footballer and coach. He played for the Balmain Tigers between 1968 and 1970, and appeared in the 1969 Grand Final where the Tigers won in an upset against the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and for Hull Kingston Rovers during the 1972–73 season. His son, Craig Fitzgibbon, became an international representative rugby league player, and will be head coach of the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks from 2022, the same role Allan held in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Leichhardt Wanderers are a rugby league club based at Leichhardt, New South Wales. They compete in the Sydney Combined Competition. Their jersey is traditionally predominantly Red and Black. In recent years they have included white in their jersey. There were a number of Leichhardt clubs in the early years of Rugby League - Leichhardt Royals played in the Balmain JRL in 1908 and won the NSWRL 3rd Grade premiership in 1911. This club's final season was 1922. Leichhardt Gladstone won the C Grade of the Western Suburbs JRL in 1914, its first season in Rugby League. These two clubs had previously played Rugby Union. In 1918, Leichhardt Wanderers was formed by persons associated with the Leichhardt Boxing Stadium. Gladstone and Wanderers had a keen rivalry firstly in the Western Suburbs JRL where Gladstone were premiers in 1918 and then in the Annandale and Glebe competitions and finally in the Balmain JRL. John Spencer was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1960s and 1970s. He played for Balmain as a second rower and is the son of former Balmain player and premiership winner Jack Spencer.
Matt Munro is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s, and has coached in the 1990s. He played at club level in the New South Wales Rugby League premiership (1990–1994), Australian Rugby League (1995), and National Rugby League (1998) for the Parramatta Eels, the Balmain Tigers and the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and in 1997's Super League II for the Oldham Bears, as a lock, and has coached at club level in 1997's Super League II for the Oldham Bears.
Lachlan Ilias is an Australian rugby league footballer who plays as a halfback for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the NRL.
