Tevin Sherard Elliot (born May 16, 1991) is a former American football linebacker who is currently serving 20 years in state prison for two rape charges against a female Baylor athlete. [1] [2]
Regarded as only a one-star recruit by Rivals.com, Elliot was not highly recruited and not listed among the top linebacker or defensive end prospects of the class of 2009. [3]
On October 14, 2010, at the age of 19, Elliot was named one of the Impact Freshmen of 2010 by Sports Illustrated . [1]
On January 23, 2014, at the age of 22, Elliot was sentenced to 20 years in prison for two counts of sexual assault against a former female Baylor athlete. He is expected to serve a minimum of 10 years before becoming eligible for parole sometime in 2024. [4]
In May 2016, reports surfaced that Baylor University and its head football coach Art Briles were aware of Elliot's assault and rape of a Baylor student. A report issued by the Pepper Hamilton law firm—hired to investigate Baylor's treatment of sexual assault claims—substantiated much of the report and indicated that Baylor took actions to cover up its students' reports of sexual assault and rape. [5] Baylor Board of Regents chair, Richard Willis said that the investigation "revealed the university's mishandling of reports in what should have been a supportive, responsive and caring environment for students."
Kenneth Winston Starr was an American lawyer and judge who as independent counsel authored the Starr Report, which served as the basis of the impeachment of Bill Clinton. He headed an investigation of members of the Clinton administration, known as the Whitewater controversy, from 1994 to 1998. In 1989, an intellectually disabled 17-year-old girl was raped with a broomstick and a baseball bat by members of the Glen Ridge High School football team in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. The United States Air Force Basic Training scandal is the military sex scandal which took place at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The scandal involved 43 female trainees allegedly victimized by their instructors during and after basic military training beginning in 2009. Seventeen male instructors were accused of offenses ranging from the solicitation of improper relationships to rape, and 35 instructors were removed from their posts pending an investigation. Nine of the accused instructors belonged to the 331st Training Squadron, and squadron commander Lt. Col. Mike Paquette was removed from command in June 2012 because of the problems in his unit. In August 2012 Col. Glenn Palmer, commander of the 737th Training Group, was also relieved from his position due to the scandal.

During a period from about 2012 to 2016, school officials suppressed reports of rapes and sexual misconduct. In 2016, Baylor's football team came under fire when it was revealed university officials had failed to take action regarding the alleged rapes and assaults. The scandal led to the ousting of head football coach Art Briles, the demotion and eventual resignation of Baylor president Ken Starr, the resignation of athletic director Ian McCaw, and the firing of two others connected with the football program. It also led to the resignation of Baylor's Title IX Coordinator, Patty Crawford. A plaintiff's attorney, Jim Dunnam, accused Baylor of implementing a ″concerted strategy to get the public to believe this is entirely and only a football-related problem."

The USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal relates to the sexual abuse of hundreds of gymnasts—primarily minors at the time of the abuse—over two decades in the United States, starting in the 1990s. More than 500 athletes alleged that they were sexually assaulted "by gym owners, coaches, and staff working for gymnastics programs across the country", including USA Gymnastics (USAG) and Michigan State University (MSU).
