The Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (sometimes referred to as TAAF) is a nonprofit amateur sports organization based in Georgetown, Texas that conducts competitions across the U.S. state of Texas. It is made up of over 140 organizations and 210,000 individuals. [3] The organization's premier events are the Games of Texas, which consist of the Summer and Winter Games held each year during their respective seasons. [4]

Regions

The state is divided into 17 regions, each with its own regional director, member cities, and affiliates. [5]

Games of Texas

TAAF conducts the Summer Games of Texas in late July and the Winter Games in January of each year. Started in 1986, the Summer Games are the largest multi-sport event in Texas and have been hosted by various cities across the state. [6] The 2019 Games will be hosted by College Station and Bryan, TX, and the 2020 Games will hosted by Corpus Christi, TX. [7] The Winter Games were created in 2006 and have been hosted since their inception by the city of Frisco, Texas.

Sport education

In addition to certification programs for coaches, parents, and officials, TAAF conducts the Sport Management School (sometimes referred to as SMS University) along with the Texas Recreation and Park Society. The goal of the two-year program is to train coaches, administrators, and parks and recreation directors to become TAAF Certified Professional Sports Managers (C.P.S.M.) [8] TAAF is also affiliated with the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run program; the NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick program; and the Hershey's Track and Field Games. [9]

Awards

Each year, the TAAF Foundation gives out three types of scholarships: for athletes (past and present), for college students majoring in Parks and Recreation, and for a graduating high school seniors or college students majoring in the sports sciences. [10]

Texas A&M University–Kingsville

Texas A&M University–Kingsville is a public research university in Kingsville, Texas. It is the southernmost campus of the Texas A&M University System. The university has programs in engineering, agriculture, wildlife, music, and the sciences. It also developed the nation's first doctoral degree in bilingual education. American Bank Center Arena in Texas, United States

The American Bank Center is an entertainment complex located in Corpus Christi, Texas. The complex consists of an auditorium, convention center and arena. The facility hosts numerous conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, live performances and sporting events. The Stadium was originally named Bearkat Baseball Complex in 2006 and in 2007 was renamed to Don Sanders Stadium. It is named after the Houston Entrepreneur Don Sanders, who donated $1 million to Sam Houston State University for enhancing the baseball program.

Games of Texas

The Games of Texas are a series of amateur Olympic-style events held each summer and winter in the U.S. state of Texas. They are organized by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) and are part of the National Congress of State Games. Medalists from the Games qualify to participate in the State Games of America, a biennial multi-sport event.

The Texas A&M–Corpus Christi Islanders baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas, United States. The team is a member of the Southland Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at on-campus Chapman Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. Off-campus Whataburger Field is the home venue for some high-profile games and tournaments. The Islanders are coached by Scott Malone.

The Corpus Christi Rage was a professional indoor football team and a charter member of the National Arena League (NAL) that began play in its inaugural 2017 season. Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, the Rage played their home games at the American Bank Center.

Dugan Wellness Center, opened in January, 2009, is located on the campus of Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas. Other home games are at the off-campus American Bank Center The facility was named after Dr. Jack and Susie Dugan. The Dugans donated the lead gift of $1 million toward the building's construction cost $21 million cost in 2007. The ribbon cutting opening ceremony and first men's basketball game at the facility were held on January 24, 2009.
