That New Sound You're Looking For is the debut studio album by What's Eating Gilbert, a solo project of Chad Gilbert.
What's Eating Gilbert began in Los Angeles in 2009 as a solo project of New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert. [4] Despite Gilbert being busy with New Found Glory, What's Eating Gilbert released three EPs in 2010, following up with the Cheap Shots in 2012. [4] According to the liner notes of Cheap Shots, What's Eating Gilbert consisted of Gilbert and Elgin James. [5] In an interview with Alternative Press in September, What's Eating Gilbert consisted of Gilbert on vocals and guitar, Honor Nezzo on keyboard and vocals, Audelio Flores, Jr. of Set Your Goals on bass, and New Found Glory member Cyrus Bolooki on drums. [6] In the same month, a music video was released for "Complaining", [7] the aesthetic of which was "important to the introduction of this band". [8] Also in September, What's Eating Gilbert went on a headlining tour with support from Tegan and Sara and Twin Forks. [9] In October, the band supported Motion City Soundtrack and Bayside. [9]
That New Sound You're Looking For was recorded in January 2014. [10] It was produced by Gilbert and Jon Howard, who also acted as engineer. He was assisted by Mike McCreight. Gilbert performed all of the guitars and bass. Josh Colbert of Further Seems Forever contributed additional guitars, while Mikey Ambrose of Set Your Goals played drums. Kait DiBenedetto of 18th & Addison and H-Bomb sung backing vocals. In addition, DiBenedetto sung additional lead vocal on "You're the Most", while Hayley Williams of Paramore sung additional lead vocal on "Wearing Your Ring". Howard mixed the recordings at the Anchor Room. They were then mastered by Alan Douches. [11]
On May 7, 2015 it was announced that Gilbert's project had signed to Hopeless and that the label would release Gilbert's debut album. [12] According to Gilbert, Hopeless wished to released the album when Gilbert could tour his side project. [12] The next day, the artwork was released. [13] On June 2, "You're the Most" was released as single. [14] A day later, a music video was released for the song. [15] The video was directed by Gilbert. [16] On July 10, That New Sound You're Looking For was released through Hopeless. [17] The album was advertised as a "nostalgic tribute to music of the 1950s and '60s." [2] After being asked why it took so long for the album to be released, Gilbert replied that "New Found Glory [...] had an action-packed last year and a half" [18] and waited "until I had some time off." [10] On the same day, a lyric video was released for "Follow Her Around". [19] The album's title is a reference to Back to the Future . [1] In July, Gilbert supported Anthony Raneri of Bayside alongside Laura Stevenson and Allison Weiss [20] on the Sorry State of Mind Tour. [19]
AllMusic reviewer Timothy Monger said the release "sounds like a fairly straightforward power pop album". [1] He noted that "it's a pleasant experiment that doesn't take itself too seriously." [1] He ended with saying how Gilbert "has a knack for fun, catchy melodies, and this record has those in spades." [1] Reviewing the album for the Daily Breeze , Sam Gnerre said it was full of "dozen smartly crafted, energetically rendered slices of power-pop". [2] Although the album "comes close on occasion to too-cutesy-for-its-own-good territory" it rebounds with "crisply executed, irresistible songs". [2] Gav Lloyd of Rock Sound noted that the music may have been influenced by Candy Hearts. [3] Lloyd commented that Gilbert's lyrics about "feeling pretty loved-up [...] [Is] something that could [have been] sickly" for lesser-known bands. [3] They have "taken the form of a collection of songs as fun as they are lovely." [3]

New Found Glory is an American rock band from Coral Springs, Florida, formed in 1997. The band currently consists of Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, Chad Gilbert, and Cyrus Bolooki (drums). Longtime rhythm guitarist and lyricist Steve Klein left the band in late 2013. During their lengthy recording career, the band have released ten studio albums, one live album, two EPs, and four cover albums.

New Found Glory is the second studio album and major label debut by the American rock band of the same name. It was produced and mixed by Neal Avron and released on September 26, 2000, through Drive-Thru and MCA Records. Nothing Gold Can Stay is the debut studio album by American rock band New Found Glory, released on May 1, 1999, through independent record label Eulogy Recordings. At the time, the band was then named "A New Found Glory", but later dropped the indefinite article "A" due to some fans struggling to find their records in stores. The original pressings of the album contained samplings from several films including The Outsiders (1983), Weird Science (1985), and That Thing You Do! (1996), as well as Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay", after which the album is named.

Chad Everett Gilbert is an American musician and record producer. He is best known as a founding member of the rock band New Found Glory, for whom he plays lead guitar, sings backing vocals, and composes music. He was also the lead vocalist for the band's now-defunct side-project, International Superheroes of Hardcore. Additionally, Gilbert was the vocalist for the hardcore punk band Shai Hulud between 1995 and 1998, and from 2012 to 2013.
Coming Home is the fifth studio album by American rock band New Found Glory. It was produced by the band along with Thom Panunzio and released on September 19, 2006 through Geffen Records. Written and demoed at the Morning View Mansion in Malibu, California during 2005, Coming Home is lyrically themed around being away from home and loved ones. The album marks a departure from the band's earlier work, implementing a more layered and mid-tempo sound that features various piano, keyboard, and string instrumentation more comparable to classic rock than their usual pop punk style.
"My Friends Over You" is a song by American rock band New Found Glory. It was released in July 2002 as the lead single from the group's third studio album, Sticks and Stones (2002). In the US, the song charted at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. In the UK, it reached number 30.
Not Without a Fight is the sixth studio album by American rock band New Found Glory. It was released on March 10, 2009 through independent label Epitaph Records. Produced by Blink-182 singer-bassist Mark Hoppus and recorded at his home based-OPRA Studios, the album was seen as a return to the band's energetic roots in comparison to its predecessor; the mellow Coming Home (2006). The gap between releases marked the longest period between studio albums in the band's career thus far, while the title is taken from the lyrics in opening track, "Right Where We Left Off".
Homesick is the third studio album by American rock band A Day to Remember, produced by Chad Gilbert and the band, and released on February 3, 2009. It was the band's second album for Victory. The album features material written while the band had been touring, which Andrew Wade helped them demo. Recording took place between October and November 2008 at The Wade Studio, located in Ocala. Featured on the album are guest vocalists Mike Hranica, Vincent Bennett and Sierra Kusterbeck (VersaEmerge). Several of the album's songs appeared on the band's MySpace profile before the release of the album.

Radiosurgery is the seventh studio album by American rock band New Found Glory. It was first released on October 3, 2011 in Europe, before its US release on October 4 through independent label Epitaph Records. It is the band's final studio album to feature founding guitarist Steve Klein. To follow up predecessor Not Without a Fight (2009), the band began writing new material during their stint on the 2010 Honda Civic Tour. After self-producing a set of demos and contacting long-term record producer Neal Avron, the band went on to record the album in Avron's home recording studio over a period of three months in 2011. The quintet set out to write an album that paid homage to classic punk rock records that first inspired them to form a band during the 1990s. Listening extensively to the likes of early Green Day and Ramones, New Found Glory strove to create a sound that could "bridge the gap" between old and new generations of the genre.
Southern Air is the eighth studio album by American rock band Yellowcard. It was released on August 14, 2012 through Hopeless Records. The songs "Always Summer" and "Here I Am Alive" were released as singles, the latter featuring Taylor Jardine of We Are the In Crowd. The album also features guest appearances by Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low and American recording artist Cassadee Pope. It debuted at 10 on the US Billboard top 200, making this their second album to debut in the top 10. It is the last to feature founding drummer Longineu W. Parsons III.
Kill It Live is the first live album by American rock band New Found Glory. It was recorded during two sold-out shows at the Chain Reaction music venue in Anaheim, California between March 27—28, 2013. It was first released on October 7, 2013 in the United Kingdom, before its wider release in other regions soon after. It was issued through imprint label Violently Happy Records, a partnership between independent label Bridge Nine Records and the band's guitarist Chad Gilbert.
Neck Deep are a Welsh pop punk band from Wrexham, Wales formed in 2012. Founded after vocalist Ben Barlow met former lead guitarist Lloyd Roberts, the pair posted a song online under the name Neck Deep. The song soon gained attention online, resulting in the addition of rhythm guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington/Abasi, and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans. They released a pair of EPs, Rain in July (2012) and A History of Bad Decisions (2013), both recorded by Barlow's older brother, before signing with Hopeless in August 2013.

Life's Not out to Get You is the second studio album by Welsh pop punk band Neck Deep. Following the success of their debut album, Wishful Thinking (2014), the majority of the band members quit their day jobs and vocalist Ben Barlow dropped out of university. Working with Jeremy McKinnon, Andrew Wade and Tom Denney, the band recorded their second album between December 2014 and January 2015. Following recording the band immediately went on tour.
