Shortwave listening, or SWLing, is the hobby of listening to shortwave radio broadcasts located on frequencies between 1700 kHz and 30 MHz (30 000 kHz). Listeners range from casual users seeking international news and entertainment programming, to hobbyists immersed in the technical aspects of long-distance radio reception and sending and collecting official confirmations that document their reception of remote broadcasts (DXing). In some developing countries, shortwave listening enables remote communities to obtain regional programming traditionally provided by local medium wave AM broadcasters. In 2002, the number of households that were capable of shortwave listening was estimated to be in the hundreds of millions.
Shortwave broadcasting in the United States allows private ownership of commercial and non-commercial shortwave stations that are not relays of existing AM/MW or FM radio stations, as are common in Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania except Australia and Latin America. In addition to private broadcasters, the United States also has government broadcasters and relay stations for international public broadcasters. Most privately owned shortwave stations have been religious broadcasters, either wholly owned and programmed by Roman Catholic and evangelical Protestant charities or offering brokered programming consisting primarily of religious broadcasters. To better reach other continents of the world, several stations are located in far-flung US territories. Shortwave stations in the USA are not permitted to operate exclusively for a domestic audience; they are subject to antenna and power requirements to reach an international audience.

Mark Gregory Koernke, known as "Mark from Michigan," is a prominent militia activist and shortwave radio broadcaster. As an early proponent of the black helicopters conspiracy theory, he was largely responsible for popularizing it in appearances on Tom Valentine's radio show and in speeches which were widely circulated on videocassette. He was host of his own radio show, "The Intelligence Report", on WWCR until the station indefinitely suspended his broadcasts. Shortly before his suspension, Koernke had suggested that authorities were setting up Timothy J. McVeigh for assassination. During this time he was interviewed by Sam Donaldson.
Giovanni Bertone "John" Campea, is a Canadian YouTuber, film critic, media critic, director, writer, producer, and editor. Campea founded and ran the film website, The Movie Blog from June 2003 to December 2009. He then went on to become the editor-in-chief of AMC Movie News from September 2008 to June 2015. Shortly after that he was hired by Complex to run Collider Movie Talk beginning in July 2015. During his time there, he served as senior producer, host and showrunner of all of the programs. He resigned twice, once in January 2016, but returned in September of that year, and left permanently in June 2017. After he resigned, he began to release videos on his YouTube channel. As of December 2022, he has over 316,000 subscribers and over 265,000,000 total views.
Kermode and Mayo's Film Review was a radio programme with Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo, broadcast on BBC Radio 5 Live on Friday afternoons. The show was self-described as the BBC's "flagship film programme" and featured film reviews from Kermode, interviews with actors and other guests, and listeners' emails. The programme's Twitter handle, "Wittertainment", was a nickname for the programme itself.
Freezerburns was a frozen food review web show hosted by Gregory Ng. Calling himself the "Frozen Food Master," Ng ate and reviewed various brands of frozen food, and assigned it a rating based on his opinion. The show started on his website, freezerburns.com, but expanded into YouTube, and joined Next New Networks' Hungry Nation channel, and could be seen on around 20 other websites. With 55,000 site visitors a month and 5,000 views per show, Freezerburns attracted the attention of large food companies like Kraft and ConAgra, who sent packages of frozen food to review. Freezerburns was featured on a variety of news and blogs.

His YouTube channel features Myers portraying the fictional role of Dimitri Potapov, a heavily accented "professional Russian" from Moscow. His videos center around the usage of large amounts of firearms and explosives.
Philip Michael Lester is an English YouTuber and radio host. He is best known for his YouTube channels AmazingPhil, which gained over 4 million subscribers, and DanAndPhilGAMES. Together with frequent collaborator Daniel Howell, he presented the Sunday night entertainment show Dan and Phil on BBC Radio 1 from January 2013 until August 2014, and from September 2014 to April 2016 the duo were monthly hosts on the station's The Internet Takeover slot.

With New York PoNY, he is the 2022 WFDF World Champion in the Open Category for ultimate Frisbee.
