The Bad Street Boys was a professional wrestling tag team in the independent circuit. [2] It was initially formed as a stable, consisting of Gregory Helms, Shannon Moore, Joey Matthews and Christian York. [1] The stable later became a tag team when Helms and Moore were signed by World Championship Wrestling (WCW), reducing the members to York and Matthews. [1]

History

Independent circuit (1997-1999)

In 1997, four young indy wrestlers Gregory Helms, Shannon Moore, Joey Matthews and Christian York formed a stable Badstreet Boys that wrestled in many independent promotions, including Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (OMEGA). [1]

York and Matthews would often team up with each other and won the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation (MEWF) Tag Team Championship on October 23, 1997, defeating Steve Corino and Jimmy Cicero and fellow challengers Mark Schrader and Corporal Punishment in a Three Way Match. [3] On November 13, York and Matthews were beaten for the titles by Jimmy Cicero and Julio Sanchez. [3] On December 20, 1998, York and Matthews won their second tag team championship by defeating The Blue Meanie and Super Nova for the Steel City Wrestling (SCW) Tag Team Championship. [4] On April 1, 1999, they lost the titles to Lou Marconi and Dennis Gregory. [4]

WCW, WWF and ECW (1999-2001)

In May 1999, all the four members of Badstreet Boys signed contracts with World Championship Wrestling (WCW). [1] They all were given tryout matches on Monday Nitro . [1] Helms and Moore were given full-time contracts. [1] York and Matthews were released. They continued to use the Bad Street Boys name and would win the Atlantic Terror City Wrestling (ATCW) Tag Team Championship on January 15, 2000. [5] On May 17, York and Matthews won their first Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) Tag Team Championship, by defeating The Holy Rollers (Rich Myers and Earl the Pearl). [6] They lost the ATCW Tag Team Titles to Jimmy Cicero and Dino Divine on July 15. [5] On August 2, they lost the MCW Tag Team Title to Christopher Carmichael and Dino Divine. [6]

Back in April 2000, York and Matthews signed contracts with World Wrestling Federation (WWF). The team were sent to WWF's partner, Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). They worked in ECW as a fan favorite tag team. In ECW, Bad Street Boys had their first rivalry with Danny Doring and Roadkill, that culminated in a match at Anarchy Rulz, which Doring and Roadkill won. [7] Bad Street Boys' next feud was with Simon Diamond and Johnny Swinger. They lost to Diamond and Swinger at November to Remember. [8] However, they defeated Diamond and Swinger in a rematch at Massacre on 34th Street. [9] At ECW's final pay-per-view Guilty as Charged, Bad Street Boys lost to Jerry Lynn and Cyrus. [10]

Return to the independent circuit (2001-2008)

After ECW's closure, Bad Street Boys returned to wrestling in the independent circuit. On February 3, 2001, Bad Street Boys defeated Bad Attitude (David Young and Rick Michaels) for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Tag Team Championship. [11] On February 17, Bad Street Boys lost the titles back to Bad Attitude. [11] Shortly thereafter, they returned to Maryland Championship Wrestling. On November 23, Bad Street Boys defeated The Holy Rollers (Rich Myers and Earl the Pearl) for their second MCW Tag Team Championship. [6] On December 1, they defeated Ray Storm and Mark Anthony for the Virginia Championship Wrestling (VCW) Tag Team Championship. [12] The titles were vacated on some unknown date in 2001. [12] On May 22, 2002, Bad Street Boys lost the MCW Tag Team Titles to Dino Divine and Chad Bowman. [6] [13]

On February 15, 2002, Bad Street Boys appeared at Pro-Pain Pro Wrestling (3PW) for the promotion's inaugural show. They teamed with Ric Blade against CM Punk, Colt Cabana and Paul E Normous in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. Bad Street Boys and Ric Blade won the match. [14] Bad Street Boys continued to wrestle in 3PW as well as Ring of Honor (ROH). [2] They appeared at the first weekly pay-per-view event of Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling on June 19, losing to The Dupps (Stan and Bo). [15] Bad Street Boys wrestled in 3PW, ROH, TNA, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and Xtreme Pro Wrestling (XPW) in 2002 and 2003. [2]

Matthews was eventually signed to a WWE contract, ending the team. [16] On September 29, 2007, Bad Street Boys reunited against The Murder City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) in a losing effort at an All American Wrestling (AAW) event titled Rise of the Machine Guns. [17] The team later returned to Maryland Championship Wrestling. On August 23, 2008, the team had their last match at an MCW event Summer Heat in which they were defeated by Derek Frazier and Ruckus. Jason Spence is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, Christian York. He is best known for his appearances with World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling and Impact Wrestling. Championships held by York over the course of his career include the NWA World Tag Team Championship as one-half of The Bad Street Boys with Joey Matthews.

Christopher Chetti is an American retired professional wrestler, best known for his appearances with Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) between 1996 and 2001.

Danny Doring and Roadkill were a tag team in Extreme Championship Wrestling from 1996 to 2001. They were the final ECW World Tag Team Champions, holding the titles until the promotion closed in 2001.

Simon Diamond and Swinger were a professional wrestling tag team in Extreme Championship Wrestling and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. During their time in ECW, they were managed by Dawn Marie. Massacre on 34th Street was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). It took place on December 3, 2000, from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, and was the second to last pay-per-view from ECW before the promotion closed.

Matthew Bowman is an American professional wrestler, best known by his ring name "Wiseguy" Jimmy Cicero, who has worked for the United States Wrestling Association, Extreme Championship Wrestling, the World Wrestling Federation and various other promotions on the independent circuit. He also works at the Independent Pro Wrestling Association Wrestling School and has trained several wrestlers who later worked for major promotions.

Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation American independent professional wrestling promotion

The Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation was a Mid-Atlantic independent professional wrestling promotion based in Essex, Maryland. Founded by promoter Dennis Wippercht and wrestler Tim "Lucifer" Burke in 1991, the MEWF was one of the leading independent promotions on the East Coast during the 1990s rivaling promotions such as East Coast Wrestling Association, Jersey All Pro Wrestling and Maryland Championship Wrestling.

Cueball Carmichael

Chris Jackson is an American professional wrestler, trainer and promoter, known by his ringname Cueball Carmichael, who competes in the Mid-Atlantic and East Coast independent circuit. He has wrestled and won titles in the Allied Powers Wrestling Federation, King Kong Bundy's Devastation Wrestling Federation, Maryland Championship Wrestling, Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation, the National Wrestling Alliance, Phoenix Championship Wrestling, Southern Championship Wrestling and Steel City Wrestling.

William Perry Blake III, better known by the ring name "Hard Rock" Ricky Blues, is a semi-retired American professional wrestler and trainer who competed in the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic independent circuit during the 1990s and 2000s. He is regarded as a pioneering cruiserweight wrestler and dominated the Baltimore-area, especially in the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation and Maryland Championship Wrestling, in the early to mid-1990s.

Chad Slivenski is a semi-retired American professional wrestler, known by his ringname Chad Bowman, who competed in East Coast and Mid-Atlantic independent promotions during the 1990s and 2000s. Early in his career, Slivenski spent time in regional promotions such as the United States Wrestling Association and Smoky Mountain Wrestling before their close in the mid-1990s, and made occasional appearances as a preliminary wrestler in World Wrestling Entertainment.

Starr also wrestled as a preliminary wrestler in both World Championship Wrestling and the World Wrestling Federation throughout the 1990s.

Daniel McDevitt, best known by his ring name Corporal Punishment, is a semi-retired American professional wrestler, trainer and promoter. His career spans over a decade working in numerous independent promotions throughout the United States including the American Wrestling Federation, Extreme Championship Wrestling, Cueball Carmichael's Independent Professional Wrestling Alliance, Doug Flex's International Pro Wrestling, Independent Superstars of Professional Wrestling, House of Pain Wrestling Federation / National Wrestling League, and the National Wrestling Alliance.

Mark Shrader is a retired American professional wrestler, trainer and promoter who competed in numerous independent promotions throughout the United States during the 1990s and early 2000s. Among these included Atlantic Terror Championship Wrestling, the Future Wrestling Alliance, East Coast Wrestling Association, Cueball Carmichael's Independent Professional Wrestling Alliance, Doug Flex's International Pro Wrestling, and the Mid-Eastern Wrestling Federation. Shrader also briefly appeared as a preliminary wrestler for the World Wrestling Federation.

Romeo Valentino is a retired American professional wrestler and promoter. He competed in a number of independent promotions in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States during the 1990s and early 2000s including American Commonwealth Wrestling, CyberSpace Wrestling Federation, The Bad Crew's Eastern Wrestling Federation, Music City Wrestling, National Championship Wrestling, NWA New Jersey, Ozark Mountain Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Alliance. He also had a brief stint as a preliminary wrestler in World Championship Wrestling.

November to Remember (2000) 2000 Extreme Championship Wrestling pay-per-view event

November to Remember (2000) was the eighth and final November to Remember professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). It took place on November 5, 2000 from the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois, US. This was the fourth November to Remember pay-per-view and the ante-penultimate ECW pay-per-view. The commentators for the event were Joey Styles, Joel Gertner and Cyrus.

Midtown Massacre 2000 Extreme Championship Wrestling live event

Midtown Massacre was a pair of professional wrestling live events produced by Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) on August 25 and August 26, 2000. The events were both held in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York in the United States. Excerpts from Midtown Massacre aired on the television show ECW on TNN on The Nashville Network on September 1, 8, and 15, 2000 as well as on episodes #384 and #385 of the syndicated television show ECW Hardcore TV on September 3 and 10, 2000.
