The Black Halos are a Vancouver, British Columbia-based punk rock band. Their music also includes some glam rock.

History

The band was founded in 1993 by lead singer Billy Hopeless and guitarist Rich Jones, and at first, was called The Black Market Babies (not to be confused with the American band with the similar name). With the addition of Matt Camirand, Jay Millette and Rob Zgaljic, they released their first album, Black Halos in 1999. [1] They then toured the USA, playing with Nikki Sudden, the Lazy Cowgirls, L7 and The Hellacopters, among others. [2]

In 2001, they released the album The Violent Years, on Sub Pop Records. [3] [4] [5] They toured around Canada with The Offspring and Millencolin, and played Edgefest and the Warped Tour. [6] In 2009, the song "No Tomorrow Girls", from The Violent Years, was featured in the Xbox 360-exclusive racing video game Forza Motorsport 3 . [7]

The band then had some major line-up changes, when Camirand left to join Blood Meridian, and Jones left to join Amen. They were replaced by guitarist Adam Becvare and bassist Denyss McKnight.

In 2005, they signed with Liquor & Poker Music, released the album Alive Without Control [8] and headed off for a 7-week, 40-show tour of Europe. [9]

In 2007, The Black Halos signed with History Music and, in 2008, released their fourth album, We Are Not Alone. [10] By this time, the band consisted of Hopeless, Zgaljic, Becvare, Johnny Stewart and Jahmeel "JR" Russell. They played Canadian Music Week and went on tour with Social Distortion. [11] [12] Later that year, while on tour, the band's van, gear and merchandise were stolen, and they decided to break up. [13] [14]

The band reformed in 2016, with Hopeless, Jones and some new members, and began playing sold-out shows, including a concert at Toronto's Bovine Sex Club during Canadian Music Week 2019. [15] Some singles followed, including 2020's "Ain’t No Good Time to Say Goodbye", which was written upon the death of Hopeless' close friend, SNFU frontman and punk icon Ken Chinn (aka Mr. Chi Pig). [16] The band is now original members Billy Hopeless, Jay Millette and Rich Jones in addition to new members Danni Action and John Kerns. [17] [18] In 2020, they independently released the 17-track album F.F.T.S. - Demos & Rarities, a collection of demos and rare tracks going back as far as 1996. [19] In 2021, they released the EP Uncommonwealth. [20] In November 2022, the band released their first full-length album since 2008, How the Darkness Doubled. [21]

Further Seems Forever is an American rock band formed in 1998 in Pompano Beach, Florida. Over its initial eight-year run the band experienced several lineup changes, resulting in a different lead vocalist performing on each of their first three studio albums. Original singer Chris Carrabba recorded The Moon Is Down (2001) with the group before leaving to start Dashboard Confessional. He was replaced by Jason Gleason, who performed on How to Start a Fire (2003) but left the band the following year. Former Sense Field vocalist Jon Bunch joined Further Seems Forever for Hide Nothing (2004). The band broke up in 2006 but reunited four years later with Carrabba on vocals. Their fourth studio album, Penny Black, was released in 2012.

They chose Bill Stevenson and Jason Livermore to produce the album, with whom they developed a strong rapport. Blood Meridian was a Canadian alternative country band based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band consisted of singer and songwriter Matt Camirand, guitarist Jeff Lee, keyboardist Shira Blustein, bassist Kevin Grant and drummer Joshua Wells. Camirand had been with The Black Halos, He and Wells were also members of Black Mountain and Pink Mountaintops; Wells was a member of Lightning Dust as well. Lee had been with 3 Inches of Blood and Black Rice.

Weston is a punk rock band hailing from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1990, they took their name from singer Dave Weston's family, since his parents allowed them to practice in their basement. The band never found mainstream success but their energetic and irreverent live shows earned them legendary status amongst their peers as well as their fans. Following their major label debut, the band split up. It was announced on October 17, 2006, that Weston would be reuniting for three shows in late December. This led to even more reunion shows in following years and a live album released December 2009.
