The Bobroom

The Bobroom was a Canadian sketch comedy troupe, active in the late 1990s and early 2000s. [1] The troupe consisted of Jennifer Baxter, Mike Beaver, Stacey DePass, Jason Jones, Shaun Majumder and Rob Tinkler, [2] and took its name from the Bob Dylan poster on the door to the smoking room in Beaver's apartment. [3]

The troupe performed their first gig at The ALTdot COMedy Lounge in 1997. [2] In 1999 they were featured in an episode of the CBC Television sketch comedy series SketchCom ; [4] the following year they received their own one-hour special on The Comedy Network. [1]

In 2004 they premiered a ten-episode sketch comedy series on The Comedy Network, although by this time Majumder had left the troupe. [5] The five remaining members made the series with guest performers David Fujino, Duane Hill, Paul O'Sullivan, Ian Sirota, Winston Spear, Derrick Thompson, Matt Watts and Scott Yaphe.

The troupe received a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Sketch Troupe at the 1st Canadian Comedy Awards in 2000, [6] and the troupe were nominated for Best Writing on a Comedic Special or Episode at the 2nd Canadian Comedy Awards in 2001. [7]

Shaun Vincent Majumder is a Canadian actor and comedian. He is best known for his role on This Hour Has 22 Minutes, where he worked from 2003 until 2018. He won a Gemini Award for his work on the series in 2006.

Dave Thomas (actor) Canadian actor and comedian

David William Thomas is a Canadian actor, comedian and television writer. He is best known for being one half of the duo Bob and Doug McKenzie with Rick Moranis. He appeared as Doug McKenzie on SCTV, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award out of two nominations, and in the film Strange Brew (1983), which he also co-directed. As a duo, they made two albums, The Great White North and Strange Brew, the former gaining them a Grammy Award nomination and a Juno Award.

Kevin Hamilton McDonald is a Canadian actor, voice actor and comedian. He is a member of the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall, who have appeared together in a number of stage, television and film productions, most notably the 1988–1995 TV series The Kids in the Hall. He played Pastor Dave in That '70s Show, and also starred as a co-pilot in the 2011 web comedy series Papillon. He also does voice work in animation, most notably for providing the voices of Agent Wendy Pleakley in the Lilo & Stitch franchise, Waffle in Catscratch, and the Almighty Tallest Purple in Invader Zim.

Bruce Ian McCulloch is a Canadian actor, comedian, writer, musician and film director. McCulloch is perhaps best known for his work as a member of the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall, including starring in the TV series of the same name. He was also a writer for Saturday Night Live. McCulloch has appeared on other series including Twitch City and Gilmore Girls. He directed the films Dog Park, Stealing Harvard and Superstar.

He is best known for his role as store manager Glenn Sturgis in the NBC TV Series Superstore and the sketch comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall, which includes starring in the 1989 to 1995 TV series The Kids in the Hall and 1996 feature film Brain Candy. Paul Bellini is a Canadian comedy writer and television actor. He is perhaps best known for his work on the comedy series The Kids in the Hall and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. He has worked on several projects with Josh Levy and Scott Thompson, and has appeared in small parts on television shows and films.

Canadian Comedy Awards National awards for performed comedy

The Canadian Comedy Awards (CCA) is an annual ceremony that awards the Beaver for achievements in Canadian comedy in live performance, radio, film, television, and Internet media. The awards were founded and produced by Tim Progosh in 2000.

The Royal Canadian Air Farce was a comedy troupe that was active from 1973 to 2019. It is best known for their various Canadian Broadcasting Corporation series, first on CBC Radio and later on CBC Television. Although their weekly radio series ended in 1997 and their television series ended in 2008, the troupe produced annual New Year's Eve specials on CBC Television until 2019. CBC announced that, due to budgetary constraints, the special scheduled to air on December 30, 2019 would be the final in the series.

<i>Picnicface</i> Canadian sketch comedy troupe

Picnicface was a Canadian sketch comedy troupe based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, consisting of Mark Little, Andrew Bush, Kyle Dooley, Cheryl Hann, Brian MacQuarrie, Evany Rosen, Scott Vrooman and Bill Wood. Formed in 2006, the group were most noted for a 13-episode sketch comedy television series which aired on The Comedy Network in 2011.

The 1st Canadian Comedy Awards honoured the best Canadian comedy of 1999 in live performances, television and film. The awards ceremony was presented by the Canadian Comedy Foundation for Excellence (CCFE), and was held on 6 April 2000 at the Masonic Temple in Toronto, Ontario. The ceremony was hosted by Dave Thomas. A one-hour version of the ceremony was broadcast late the following night on CTV, and the full program aired on The Comedy Network on 9 April at 9 pm.

The 2nd Canadian Comedy Awards, presented by the Canadian Comedy Foundation for Excellence (CCFE), honoured the best live, television, and film comedy of 2000 and was held in April 2001 at The Guvernment in Toronto, Ontario. The ceremony was hosted by Sheila McCarthy and Patrick McKenna and was televised by The Comedy Network.

Brandon Ash-Mohammed is a Canadian stand-up comedian, whose debut comedy album Capricornication was released in 2020.

Ian Sirota is a Canadian stand-up and sketch comedian, who was a cast member of the television sketch series Comedy Inc. in the 2000s.
