Thighpaulsandra

Thighpaulsandra is a Welsh experimental musician and multi-instrumentalist known mostly for performing on synthesizers and keyboards. He began his career working with Julian Cope in the late 1980s, becoming a member of Cope's touring band. A collaboration with Cope in 1993 followed, as the experimental duo Queen Elizabeth. In 1997, former Cope guitarist Mike Mooney invited Thighpaulsandra to fill in for the departing Kate Radley on a Spiritualized tour, where he remained until early 2008. In 1998 he also became a member of the experimental band Coil. He has subsequently released several solo albums.

I, Thighpaulsandra 2001 studio album by Thighpaulsandra

I, Thighpaulsandra is the debut album by Thighpaulsandra. I showcased Thighpaulsandra's interests in krautrock, experimental and industrial music and featured his only single to date, "Michel Publicity Window". Closing song "Beneath the Frozen Lake of Stars" was originally recorded for a third album by Queen Elizabeth, which featured Thighpaulsandra and Julian Cope, but was revised and expanded for inclusion on this album. The vinyl edition was limited to 1000 copies on "moon's milk" white vinyl, with an additional 55 copies on amethyst-coloured vinyl; this smaller batch, along with being autographed, had its sleeve personally damaged by Thighpaulsandra to the extent that the recipient saw fit.

The Michel Publicity Window E.P. 2001 EP by Thighpaulsandra

The Michel Publicity Window E.P. is a CD by Thighpaulsandra. The title track is a radio-friendly edit of the 27-minute epic from I, Thighpaulsandra, excising the ambient suites that bookend the rock midsection. The rest of the EP features forays into electronica and hard rock, and remains Thighpaulsandra's most commercial-sounding record to date. A limited edition of 500 copies were pressed on transparent amber vinyl.

Double Vulgar 2003 studio album by Thighpaulsandra

Double Vulgar is the second album by Thighpaulsandra. The album is notable for its packaging: the artwork consists of sexually explicit, homoerotic imagery featuring bondage and edgeplay, and was initially refused by several printers. The lyrical content was also controversial: "His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales Breaches Reality" was written as a dedication to Charles, Prince of Wales, if he were to ever have sexual relations with one of his sons, while most of the other lyrics describe several equally explicit situations. "The Bush Administration Project" notably contains the line "And I am splashed with semen", sung by Thighpaulsandra's mother, contralto Dorothy Lewis.

Rape Scene 2004 studio album by Thighpaulsandra with Siôn Orgon and Martin Schellard

Rape Scene is the third album by Thighpaulsandra. The album was recorded live in the studio, and is credited to "Thighpaulsandra with Siôn Orgon and Martin Schellard". As a trio, Thighpaulsandra musically explores a sexual scenario involving rape fantasy and medical fetishism by way of a Gomco clamp, a device normally used to circumcise men. The liner notes credit the recording sessions as occurring in the winter of 2004, referring to the early months of the year instead of the final ones.

Double Vulgar II 2005 studio album by Thighpaulsandra

Double Vulgar II is the fourth album by Thighpaulsandra. Like its predecessor, Double Vulgar, it contains sexually explicit, homoerotic artwork, though it is slightly toned down by comparison. One insert contains a double-sided image of model Chris Jones' erection. The album also features lyrics ranging from the heavily graphic, sexually explicit situations of its first volume to the less obvious musings of "The Vile Receipt"

Chamber Music (Thighpaulsandra album) 2005 studio album by Thighpaulsandra

The musician worked with numerous guest musicians, including substantial contributions from Thighpaulsandra, resulting in a sprawling album that extends the pop style of 20 Mothers (1995) while incorporating styles of glam pop, space rock, orchestral pop, with string arrangements and electronic overtones. The record is split into two separate parts, "Phase 1" and "Phase 2".

It marks Thighpaulsandra's return to solo work after nearly a decade of touring with Spiritualized, Elizabeth Fraser and Wire. The album pulls from over ten years of recording sessions; as such, The Golden Communion boasts collaborations not only with Thighpaulsandra regulars Martin Schellard and Siôn Orgon, but also with John Balance and Peter Christopherson, the late founders of industrial band Coil. Overall, the music presented contains threads of psychedelic and progressive rock, featuring orchestrations and extended pop music song structures not heard before on a Thighpaulsandra album.
