The Color of Violence is an American experimental band, currently a side project of the post-hardcore band From First to Last. It features drummer Derek Bloom and vocalist/guitarist Travis Richter. The Color of Violence is a way for the members to experiment and have fun with music outside of their other group.
The Color of Violence formed in 2002 originally as a full-time band under the name Skeleton Slaughter vs. Fetus Destroyer. [1] The members attempted to make music that resembled grindcore, [2] specifically the band Discordance Axis. [3] It featured Travis Richter, Derek Bloom, Matt Good, Joey Antillion and Chad Crews. [1] After changing the name to The Color of Violence then recording and releasing an EP and touring in early 2003, all members but Crews put most of their attention into From First to Last (then under the name "First too Last" [2] ). Between 2003 and most of 2006, The Color of Violence saw little to no activity.
By the end of 2006, Richter and Bloom decided to return to making music as The Color of Violence as a two-piece band. In 2006 they sent a couple of songs to Brett Gurewitz, founder and CEO of Epitaph Records and guitarist for punk rock band Bad Religion. [3] At this time, From First to Last was also signed to Epitaph, but have since switched to Interscope Records, and later Rise Records.
December 19, 2007, COV released a bulletin via their MySpace, announcing they would be recording next year.
The Color of Violence will be documenting tones and patterns in January of '08. Please don't ask any questions as we have only booked the studio time and have absolutely no idea what we are going to record, just know that its going to be some of the following adjectives, "Brutal" ,"Far out", "Hip" "Gay","Not gay" and then of course "Really gay" Respectively yours, Guy&Glitch The Color of Violence"
Recently, the band posted a re-recorded version of "God Gave Me Deeze Nutzz" on their MySpace page. The album is listed as "Youthanize Demos".
November 10, 2008, FFTL released a bulletin via their MySpace, announcing that an album for COV will be out in 2009.
"CONSTIPATED? relieve yourself with knowing that Derek and I of from first to last are recording our other band The Color of Violence right now and its slated to come out on epitaph in early '09 like march or april.. We had the awesome pleasure of flying in two sick drummers for this recording..JonSyverson from Daughters and Joel Coan from The Felix Culpa.. We have 11 songs for this release and are really excited to do some high octane shred! Add us on myspace or facebook! we are trying to build up our fanbase online so we can tour and what not one day!"
From First to Last announced on December 31, 2008, that a new single will be released in January for the band Color of Violence. The song, a cover of the Pixies' "Rock Music", was released on February 12, on the band's MySpace page.
The Color of Violence played at the 2009 Warped Tour on the Pomona stop on June 26.
The Color of Violence also supported From First to Last on their tour in October 2009 with their sign to Rise Records.
As of late 2009, Travis Richter parted ways with From First to Last. He then became the vocalist for progressive metal band The Human Abstract.
Around April 2017, the band's Twitter [4] became active, Travis himself also tweeted out on July 11: "pumped on the new @colorofviolence !! Jams are turning out exciting and refreshing" [5]
On February 9, 2018, they released a new single called "Dreadophile". This followed a long period of teases from the band and two official mixtapes.
Daughters were an American rock band formed in 2002, in Providence, Rhode Island. The band's most recent lineup consisted of vocalist Alexis Marshall, guitarist Nick Sadler, drummer Jon Syverson, and bassist Samuel Walker.
Converge is an American metalcore band formed by vocalist and artist Jacob Bannon and guitarist and producer Kurt Ballou in Salem, Massachusetts in 1990. While recording their landmark fourth album Jane Doe in 2001, the group became a four-piece with the departure of guitarist Aaron Dalbec and the addition of bassist Nate Newton and drummer Ben Koller. This lineup has remained intact since. The members have also been involved in various side-projects and collaborations, including the bands Supermachiner (Bannon), Old Man Gloom (Newton), and Mutoid Man (Koller). With their extremely aggressive and boundary-pushing sound, rooted in hardcore and heavy metal, they are pioneers of metalcore and its subgenre mathcore.
From First to Last is an American rock band formed in Tampa, Florida by Matt Good, Scott Oord, and Parker Nelms in November 1999. The current line-up consists of Matt Good, Travis Richter, and Derek Bloom (drums).
The Transplants are an American punk rock/rap rock supergroup. They formed in 1999 when Tim Armstrong played his friend and roadie Rob Aston some beats he had made using Pro Tools and asked Aston if he would consider contributing lyrics. Initially, Armstrong played all the instruments himself, but as the project grew, he invited musician friends such as Matt Freeman, Lars Frederiksen (Rancid), and Vic Ruggiero to add to the sound. Before long, Armstrong and Aston decided to officially form a band, but to make things complete, they wanted a drummer, so Travis Barker from Blink-182 was asked to join in 2002.
Matchbook Romance was an American emo band from Poughkeepsie, New York and was formed in 1997. They were signed to Epitaph Records. They released two full-length albums and one EP. Their EP, West for Wishing, released in 2003 was their first recorded album during their time on Epitaph; their full-length debut album, Stories and Alibis, was recorded in the same year.
Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount is the debut studio album by American post-hardcore band From First to Last. It was released on June 29, 2004, through Epitaph Records. The title was taken from a monologue in the film Heathers, in which Winona Ryder's character is writing in her diary. Production was handled by Lee Dyess and the band themselves. The album was remastered by Beau Burchell from Saosin, however, it is not indicated on the personnel, possibly due to a contemporary feud between the band. The album is also notable for being one of the earliest projects featuring singer and multi-instrumentalist Sonny Moore.
Aesthetic is the debut EP by American rock band From First to Last, released in 2003. It was the band's first release before their debut album, Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count. Early pressings contain the band's original name, First Too Last, but later pressings have the name changed when the band added the "From" to the beginning of their name.
Derek Bloom is an American musician and singer, known for drumming in post-hardcore band From First to Last for all of their time as a band until their revival. He left From First to Last in November 2013, later rejoining in 2017. He is also the drummer for his grindcore side-project with Travis Richter, known as The Color of Violence.
Heroine is the second studio album by American post-hardcore band From First to Last. It was released on March 21, 2006 through Epitaph Records. It is the band's only album to feature Wes Borland, who plays bass, and the band's last album to feature lead vocalist Sonny Moore before his first departure from the band in early 2007.
Travis Brandon Richter is an American musician, singer and record producer. He is known for being a vocalist and guitarist in the band From First to Last and the lead vocalist of The Color of Violence and The Human Abstract. He is also a record producer and in 2018 cofounded a music venue in Los Angeles, CA called "1720", with Alex Alereza (Nekrogoblikon) and Brett Powell.
Matthew Aaron Good is an American musician, singer and record producer. He is best known for being the lead guitarist, lead vocalist and the only constant member of the post-hardcore band From First to Last from its conception in 1999 until now. He was formerly the guitarist of grindcore band The Color of Violence, which featured future From First to Last members Travis Richter, Derek Bloom, and Joey Antillon. He joined Chiodos vocalist Craig Owens' band, D.R.U.G.S., eventually moving on to produce music under the name Kit Fysto with friend AJ Calderon. He currently owns and operates a music recording studio in Tempe, Arizona called Good Sounds and plays guitar in From First to Last. He also produced Asking Alexandria's self titled album, which was released on 15 December 2017.
Himsa was an American heavy metal band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in 1998, their band name is from the Sanskrit word himsa, which means "harm" or "violence".
The Human Abstract was an American progressive metalcore band from Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2004, the group was originally signed to the independent label Hopeless Records, the band then released the two albums Nocturne (2006) and Midheaven (2008) before signing to eOne Music and releasing Digital Veil (2011). The Human Abstract went through several lineup changes over the years, with the final consisting of founding members Dean Herrera, A.J. Minette and Brett Powell, in addition to Henry Selva and Travis Richter.
Jonathan Alan Syverson is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the drummer of the rock band Daughters since 2002. He has also handled drumming duties for As the Sun Sets and The Color of Violence, and more recently Unsane. Recently Jon also joined up with another Providence band called Snowbird. Snowbird has Jon on drums along with Steve Murphy.
Youthanize is the first full-length album by grindcore band The Color of Violence. It was released under Epitaph Records on April 7, 2009. The album was made purely for fun as guitarist and vocalist stated, "It may not be groundbreaking, and it may not sell any copies, but we tried to be ourselves and experiment, and we're all really happy with the way it turned out, so fuck it."
Chris Lent is an American drummer and keyboardist, formerly a member of the post-hardcore band From First to Last, and of the experimental metal band I Set My Friends on Fire.
Throne to the Wolves is the fourth studio album by the post-hardcore band From First to Last. This was the only album by From First to Last to be released on the record label Rise Records and is the first and only album the band made without guitarist and backup singer Travis Richter. It is also the band's only release with guitarist Blake Steiner and the band's last release before their hiatus in 2010, until the band's reunion in 2013 whereupon they announced the recording of a new album. No song of the album has become a single, but "Going Lohan", "Cashing Out" and "I'll Inoculate the World with the Virus of My Disillusionment" were released in 2009, before album release, via MySpace for free listening.
Digital Veil is the third album by American progressive metal band The Human Abstract. The album was released on March 8, 2011, through E1 Music. Digital Veil marks the return of founding guitarist A.J. Minette, who left in 2007, and the introduction of the new lead vocalist Travis Richter, who replaced former vocalist Nathan Ells. The first single off the album, titled "Faust," was released digitally on November 16, 2010.
Dead Trees is the fifth studio album by post-hardcore band From First to Last, released April 23, 2015, via Sumerian Records. It is the first and only release to feature vocalist Spencer Sotelo, Taylor Larson as third guitarist, and new drummer, Ernie Slenkovich. Returning to the group is guitarist/vocalist and founder Travis Richter, who had left the band in 2009. The band planned for the release to be an EP but due to the success of their Kickstarter campaign, the band had enough money to fund this LP.
