The Conscious Daughters (TCD) were an American female hip hop duo from the Bay Area, California, United States, consisting of Carla "CMG" Green and Karryl "Special One" Smith. [1] The duo signed in 1993 to Paris's record label, Scarface Records, after passing him a demo tape at a club. [1] They released their first studio album, Ear to the Street . [2]

The single and video release of their 1994 single, "Somethin' to Ride To (Fonky Expedition)", helped TCD gain national recognition. Soon after, they were signed by Priority/EMI Records and released their second album, Gamers . Many collaborations, projects and television appearances followed, most notably Rap City , MTV Jams, and Soul Train . [3]

In 2007, Nas released the track "Where Are They Now (West Coast Remix)" which featured Breeze, Kam, King Tee, Candyman, Threat, Ice-T, Sir Mix-A-Lot and TCD. [4]

Their third album, The Nutcracker Suite, [5] was released on Guerrilla Funk Records on February 10, 2009. In 2010, TCD severed their relationship with Guerrilla Funk Records, and in 2011 they signed a distribution deal with Phaseone/Sony.[ citation needed ]

On December 10, 2011, Smith was found dead at her home. Initially, the cause of death was unknown, but it was eventually determined to be from complications associated with blood clots that reached her lungs. [3] [6] [7] [8]

Rebirth of a Nation is a collaborative studio album by American hip hop group Public Enemy and rapper/producer Paris. Its title is a reference to the 1915 white supremacist film The Birth of a Nation as well as one of the group's prior albums, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. Despite the Public Enemy branding on the album, many tracks were written and produced by Paris; the album itself was deemed a "special project" by Chuck D in order to differentiate it from other Public Enemy works. It was released on March 7, 2006 through Guerrilla Funk Recordings with distribution via Caroline Distribution. The album was mixed and mastered at Data Stream Studio in San Francisco, California. The album features guest appearances from Dead Prez, MC Ren, Kam, Sister Souljah, The Conscious Daughters, Immortal Technique and Professor Griff. Rebirth of a Nation peaked at number 180 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the United States and sold 5,592 units in its first week out.

Ear to the Street is the debut studio album by American hip hop duo The Conscious Daughters. It was released in 1993 via Scarface Records and Priority Records. Production was handled solely by San Francisco rapper Paris. The album peaked at #126 on the Billboard 200, at #25 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and at #7 on the Heatseekers Albums. It spawned two singles, "Somethin' to Ride To " and "We Roll Deep," both of which made it to the Billboard charts.

1995 is a French rap group founded in 2008 in the southern part of Paris as P.O.S. The name was changed to "1995" in 2010 in reference to the year 1995, considered a "golden year" for French rap. The six-member group is composed of 5 rappers and one producer all coming from the 14th and 15th arrondissements in Paris. 1995 are influenced by the spontaneous and positive vibes from the 1990 French rap.

Breeze is a rapper from Los Angeles who released at least one album, titled T.Y.S.O.N. in 1989. The album featured production by the L.A. Posse, a Hip-Hop production team that produced for LL Cool J and Whodini, amongst others. His notability was substantiated by his inclusion on the west coast remix of "Where are They Now", a song presented by Nas where notable artists from the earlier history of Hip-Hop were featured as a sort of tribute to their contribution to the music genre.
