The Creases are an Australian indie rock band formed in Brisbane in April 2013. [1] [2] They have released one studio album to date.

History

The Creases formed in Brisbane in April 2013 [1] [2] initially a duo, with Joe Agius on lead vocals and guitar and Jarod Mahon on bass guitar and vocals; they were joined in October by Aimon Clark on lead guitar and Bridie McQueen on drums. [1] In 2014 McQueen was replaced on drums by Gabriel Webster. [1] They performed at Australian festivals and supported gigs by Franz Ferdinand. [1]

The band issued their debut extended play, Gradient, in July 2014. [1] It was recorded in the previous December with Simon Berckelman producing. [3] Beat Magazine's Simon Welby felt, "[its] sunny and relatively slick production quality is a marked sonic advance from the tracks that initially brought them attention... Stylistically, the EP steps beyond the jangly garage pop of 'I Won't Wait' to align itself with acts of the shoegaze and dream pop ilk (Yo La Tengo, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride)." [3]

In July 2017, The Creases released their debut studio album, Tremolow, which reached the ARIA Top 100 Physical Albums and No. 21 on the ARIA Hitseekers Albums charts. [4] [5] Jack Gobbe of Outlet Mag observed, "With charming song writing and catchy hooks that are often emphasised by stirring backing vocals, you'll soon find a significant chunk of the record ringing in your head for days to come." [6]

Not Drowning, Waving were a musical group formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1983 by David Bridie and John Phillips. Their music combined elements of rock, ambient music and world music; their lyrics dealt with characteristically Australian topics: word-pictures of landscapes and people, the seasons, and some political issues – such as Indonesia's invasion of East Timor. David Ross Hope Bridie is an Australian contemporary musician and songwriter. He was a founding mainstay member of World music band Not Drowning, Waving which released six studio albums to critical acclaim. He also formed a chamber pop group, My Friend the Chocolate Cake, which released seven studio albums. During his solo career he has issued five studio albums and worked on soundtracks for Australian films and television like The Man Who Sued God, Remote Area Nurse, Secret City, and The Circuit. Bridie is the founder and artistic director of Wantok Musik Foundation; a not-for-profit music label that records, releases and promotes culturally infused music from Indigenous Australia, Melanesia and Oceania. In 2019 he received the Don Banks Music Award.

My Friend the Chocolate Cake are an Australian chamber pop group formed in 1989 by mainstays David Bridie on vocals and keyboards and Helen Mountfort on cello and backing vocals. They have released seven studio albums with two reaching the ARIA Albums Chart top 50, Brood (1993) and Good Luck (1996). These two albums have both won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album; in 1995 and 1997.

Chocolate Starfish is an Australian rock band formed in 1992 and disbanded in 1998. Their self-titled debut album, issued in April 1994, peaked at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It was followed in October 1995 by their second album, Box, which reached No. 6. Their highest-charting single, "You're So Vain", was a cover version of Carly Simon's 1972 hit. It peaked at No. 11 on the ARIA Singles Chart in September 1993. They had another hit with "Mountain" in March 1994, which reached No. 12.

Kate Melina Miller-Heidke is an Australian singer and songwriter. Although classically trained, she has generally followed a career in alternative pop music. Four of her solo studio albums have peaked in the top 10 of the ARIA Albums Chart, Curiouser, Nightflight, O Vertigo! and Child in Reverse. Her most popular single, "The Last Day on Earth", reached No. 3 on the ARIA Singles Chart after being used in promos for TV soap, Neighbours, earlier in that year. At the ARIA Music Awards Miller-Heidke has been nominated 17 times.

Alpha Wolf is an Australian metalcore band originally from Burnie, Tasmania and currently located in Melbourne, Victoria. Bassist/founding vocalist John Arnold stated that "the name Alpha Wolf came from the movie The Grey". Their debut album Mono was released in July 2017 and peaked at number 29 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Agius has also directed music videos for his wife, Harriette Pilbeam's solo project, Hatchie. As a member of Hatchie's backing band, Agius has also co-written, co-produced and performed material with her since 2018.
