The Cruise is a British observational documentary television series directed by Chris Terrill that aired on BBC in 1998. The series of 12 episodes followed a group of staff on board the luxury cruise ship Galaxy as it sailed the Caribbean on its maiden voyage. [1] The first episode, Let the Dream Begin, aired at 8pm on 13 January 1998. [2] The series was highly popular, attracting 10.39 million viewers (41 per cent audience share). [3] It made a celebrity of Jane McDonald, a cruise ship entertainer on Galaxy, who went on to become a recording artist and television presenter. [4]

In August 2008, BBC Two broadcast a five-part series called Return to... The Cruise, a retrospective look at the original series, with stars of The Cruise reminiscing about life on board Galaxy, as well as highlights from the series. [18]

Marella Explorer is a Century-class cruise ship owned and operated by Marella Cruises. Before joining TUI she cruised as MV Galaxy with Celebrity Cruises, and later as Mein Schiff with TUI Cruises. She was laid down at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on 25 May 1995, was launched in May 1996, and was delivered to Celebrity Cruises on 10 October 1996. She entered service on 21 December 1996.
Jane Anne McDonald is an English singer, songwriter and television presenter. Born and raised in Wakefield, McDonald spent much of her early career performing in local clubs and pubs before landing work as a singer on cruise ships. McDonald became known to the public in 1998 following her appearance on the BBC show The Cruise.

Following drama training at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts, Hart began writing material for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and making appearances in various British sitcoms, including Hyperdrive (2006–2007) and Not Going Out (2006–2009).
Trude Mostue is a Norwegian veterinary surgeon and television presenter. She is best known for her appearances in the BBC documentary series Vet School in 1996, and later in the follow-up series Vets in Practice. She went on to present and co-present a number of television series. After leaving England, Mostue has returned to veterinary practice full-time in Norway.

Vets in Practice is a BBC fly-on-the-wall documentary series that followed a group of trainee veterinary surgeons. The first episode, Animal Magic, aired at 8 pm on 26 August 1997. Series one attracted 8.09 million viewers. It made celebrities of Trude Mostue and Steve Leonard, who became TV presenters.
