The DC3 were an Australian rock band who were composed of three members of Root!. They were known for lead singer Damian Cowell being a former member of TISM. They released their first single, "I Was the Guy in TISM" in 2010. A remixed and extended version appears on their debut album The Future Sound of Nostalgia, released in 2011. [1]
In 2010, Damian Cowell was contracted to write an album for the Museum of Old and New Art. [2] The album was composed of new songs about the artwork at MONA. Damian split his alt-country band Root! up soon after but reformed it with fewer members under the name the DC3. The DC3 gained a following among former TISM and Root! fans after the band's first single "I was the guy in TISM" was released in November 2010. [3] The album was completed in 2011 and called "Vs Art".
The DC3's first show was at the opening of MONA in Hobart. Around that time, Vs Art was released. The band began to play live in Melbourne and around Australia.
Cowell originally intended to call the band "The Future Sound of Nostalgia" [4] ", but he thought it was too long. This is instead the name of the band's official debut album which was released on 1 September 2011.
The DC3's second and final album, May Contain Traces of Nut, was released on 7 February 2013. It was funded by a Pozible project which raised $12,590.
At the end of 2013, the DC3 broke up so Cowell could concentrate on his solo project Damian Cowell's Disco Machine. Their final two songs, "Bryan Miller" and "Martin Wagner" (outtakes from the May Contain Traces of Nut sessions), were released on SoundCloud in early 2014. In an interview in 2015, Cowell stated that the breakup was in part due to Robertson's and Grawe's desires to live normal lives.
The DC3 mainly played standard alternative rock with social commentary as the lyrics, as heard in songs like "I Was the Guy in TISM" and "Henry Fucking Wagons". The sound is reminiscent of White Albun-era TISM. The band itself described its style as "motorik punk rock Eurodisco". [5]
Some DC3 songs (e.g. "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Shut the Fuck Up", "Henry Fucking Wagons") were performed as Root! songs as early as 2008 before the name-change to the DC3.

The Flaming Lips are an American psychedelic rock band formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The band currently consists of Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd, Derek Brown, Matt Duckworth Kirksey and Nicholas Ley. Coyne and Drozd have remained the band's only consistent members since 1991, with Coyne being the only remaining founding member following the departure of bassist and keyboardist Michael Ivins in 2021.
Black Flag is an American punk rock band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California. Initially called Panic, the band was established by Greg Ginn, the guitarist, primary songwriter, and sole continuous member through multiple personnel changes in the band. They are widely considered to be one of the first hardcore punk bands, as well as one of the pioneers of post-hardcore. After breaking up in 1986, Black Flag reunited in 2003 and again in 2013. The second reunion lasted well over a year, during which they released their first studio album in nearly three decades, What The... (2013). The band announced their third reunion in January 2019.
Slipknot is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Slipknot. It was released on June 29, 1999, by Roadrunner Records, following a demo containing a few of the songs which had previously been released in 1998. Later, it was reissued in December 1999 with a slightly-altered track listing and mastering as the result of a lawsuit. It was the first release by the band to be produced by Ross Robinson, who sought to refine Slipknot's sound rather than alter the group's musical direction. This is the only album to feature original guitarist Josh Brainard who left at the end of recording in late 1998 while the band was taking a brief break. Jim Root, who recorded two tracks at this point, would appear full time on subsequent albums starting with their next album Iowa.
Everclear is an American rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1991. The band was formed by Art Alexakis, the band's lead songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist; and for most of the band's height of popularity, consisted of Craig Montoya on bass guitar and Greg Eklund on drums. After the limited release of their independently released debut album, World of Noise, the band found success with their first three albums on Capitol Records: Sparkle and Fade, So Much for the Afterglow, and Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile, which were all certified platinum in sales. However, the following two albums Songs from an American Movie Vol. Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude and Slow Motion Daydream, were not as well received, and as sales suffered, Montoya and Eklund left the band shortly after in 2003.
TISM are a seven-piece anonymous alternative rock band, formed in Melbourne, Australia on 30 December 1982 by vocalist/drummer Humphrey B. Flaubert, bassist/vocalist Jock Cheese and keyboardist/vocalist Eugene de la Hot Croix Bun, with vocalist Ron Hitler-Barassi joining the group the following year. These four members have formed the core of the band since their inception, with the line-up being rounded out by guitarists Leak Van Vlalen (1982–1991), Tokin' Blackman and Vladimir Lenin-McCartney (2022–present), as well as backing vocalists/dancers Les Miserables and Jon St. Peenis.
Chris Pitman is an American musician best known for his involvement with the hard rock band Guns N' Roses. A multi-instrumentalist, Pitman is known to play keyboards, guitar and drums, in addition to his role as a lead or backing vocalist. Pitman currently fronts alternative rock band SexTapes and previously worked with such bands as Guns N' Roses, Lusk, Replicants and Tool.
Dinosaur is the debut studio album by the alternative rock band Dinosaur Jr. It was released in 1985 on Homestead Records. The album exhibits a folkier side of the band than on future releases, but some of the tracks on the album showed off a much heavier, more hardcore punk-based side to the band in songs such as "Does it Float", "Mountain Man" and "Bulbs of Passion."

Jonathan Davis and the SFA was an American alternative rock band, formed as a side project for Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. The band functioned as a musical collective, with a rotating cast of musicians involved with the project centred around Davis' songwriting. Although the project never officially released any studio material, two live albums were released in the time the band was active: Alone I Play in 2007, and Live at the Union Chapel in 2011.
The King Blues are a British punk rock band from London credited for fusing punk and hip hop together with influences from ska and spoken word. Get Up Yourself is an EP by Australian rock band Root!, released on 23 August 2008. It is both a follow-up to the band's previous release Root Supposed He Was Out of the Question... and a sample of the upcoming second album Surface Paradise. The EP contains three tracks of Root!'s style of country and rock music and one track composed of a reworking of the title track featuring DC Root's signature ironic lyrics. It is an entirely spoken word track.
The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is the largest privately funded museum in the Southern Hemisphere. MONA houses ancient, modern and contemporary art from the David Walsh collection. Noted for its central themes of sex and death, the museum has been described by Walsh as a "subversive adult Disneyland".

Nostalgia, Ultra is the debut mixtape by American singer-songwriter Frank Ocean. It was released on February 16, 2011. Ocean was inspired to make the mixtape after Hurricane Katrina in his native New Orleans and his subsequent relocation to Los Angeles. After joining alternative hip hop group Odd Future in 2009, he self-released the mixtape, without initial promotion. Nostalgia, Ultra has a unique R&B aesthetic and features surreal themes and nostalgic lyrics. The songs mostly focus on interpersonal relationships, personal reflection, and social commentary. Following its release, the mixtape received rave reviews from music critics. The cover features a picture of a bright orange BMW E30 M3, Ocean's "dream car", in plain sight amidst lush greenery.

It was released on 13 May 2020 through Dirty Hit and Polydor Records as an exclusive the seventh and final single from their fourth studio album, Notes on a Conditional Form (2020). The song was written by band members Matty Healy, George Daniel, Adam Hann and Ross MacDonald. Production of the track was handled by Daniel and Healy alongside Jonathan Gilmore. "Guys" is a mid-tempo indie rock and pop rock ballad that celebrates the band's nearly two decades of friendship, described by Healy as an ode to platonic love and an answer song to "Girls" (2013).
