Dainik Dinkal is a daily newspaper published in the Bengali language. The newspaper is also known as the mouthpiece of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and is published from Dhaka. On February 19, 2023, the Bangladesh Press Council announced the closure of the publication of the newspaper. [1] However later on 11 August 2024, the publication of the newspaper was approved. History

Dainik Dinkal was first published in 1986, edited by Sanaulah Nuri and published by Majedur Rahman. Later on April 16, 2002, Tarek Rahman, the chairman of the BNP, took over the responsibility of the publisher and printer of the newspaper. Currently, Rezwana Siddiqui is the responsible editor of the newspaper. [1]

Announcement of closure

On December 26, 2022, the office of Dainik Dinkal was ordered to be invalidated by the publication branch of the Dhaka District Magistrate. According to the office order, without assigning responsibility to the newspaper publisher, the office address and printing press were relocated outside the country, and the newspaper was prosecuted in a criminal case. Tarek Rahman's name was used to issue a press release for printing the newspaper, and the address and printing press were changed without the permission of the authorities. As a result, the announcement of the newspaper's publication was suspended. On February 19, 2023, the Bangladesh Press Council announced the closure of the publication of the newspaper. [5] [6]

Samakal is a Bengali-language daily newspaper published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The paper is owned by Ha-Meem Group. It began publication in 2005. Golam Sarwar was the editor of the paper from its launch until his death in 2018. In 2020, Samakal had a circulation of 270,000, which made it the eighth most widely read newspaper in the country.

Amar Desh is a daily newspaper in Bangladesh, published from Dhaka in the Bengali language since 2004. Amar Desh provides news about Bangladesh from local and regional perspectives and covers international news. Amar Desh is considered as a popular newspaper in Bangladesh. The newspaper was closed down in 2010 and again in 2013 by the Awami League administration. After the fall of Hasina's regime, the newspaper was relaunched in 22 December 2024.

On 28 February 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, the vice-president of the Jamaat-e-Islami to death for war crimes committed during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Following the sentence, activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir attacked Hindus in different parts of the country. Hindu properties were looted, Hindu houses were burnt into ashes and Hindu temples were desecrated and set on fire. While the government has held the Jamaat-e-Islami responsible for the attacks on minorities, the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership has denied any involvement. Minority leaders have protested the attacks and appealed for justice. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has directed law enforcement to start suo motu investigation into the attacks. The US Ambassador to Bangladesh expressed concern about attacks by Jamaat on the Bengali Hindu community.

Bangladesh Pratidin is a Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh. It was founded on 15 March 2010. Bangladesh Pratidin tops the list of highest circulated dailies in the country out of 345 newspapers published from Dhaka and elsewhere, the information minister told parliament 10 March 2014. Abu Taher is the Acting Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin. Bangladesh Pratidin is a subsidiary of East West Media Group (EWMG), which is owned by Bashundhara Group. On behalf of EWMG, the publisher of the newspaper is Moynal Hossain Chowdhury.

The Dainik Bangla is a Bengali-language daily newspaper in Bangladesh. The newspaper was closed in 1997 and was later revived on 4 September 2022 by an editorial panel led by Nazrul Islam Mazumder and Chowdhury Nafeez Sharafat.

The Daily Sylheter Dak popularly known as the Sylheter Dak, is a local daily newspaper in Bangladesh, published from Sylhet in the Bengali language. The Sylheter Dak was founded on 18 July 1984. The newspaper, more than 30 years old, is the most widely circulated daily newspaper in Sylhet.

On April 17, 2021, Rozina Islam, a senior female reporter of the Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo, went to the Health Ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat for COVID-19 related reporting. She was confined in the ministry for five hours and her cell phones were seized. She was allegedly harassed and assaulted during her detention at the secretariat. She was then arrested from the Ministry for alleged theft and taking photographs of sensitive state documents. Sibbir Ahmed Osmani, Deputy Secretary of the Health Services Division, filed a case against her around midnight of April 17, 2021 with Shahbagh police station under the Official Secrets Act. She was jailed in Dhaka Kashimpur Women's Central Jail amid widespread protests. A virtual hearing for her bail was held on May 20, 2021, later the court announced the decision would be delayed to May 23, 2021, and on that day she was granted a conditional bail after being imprisoned for 7 days.

Ajker Patrika is a Bengali-language daily newspaper that is published in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The newspaper started publishing on June 27, 2021. Golam Rahman is the editor of Ajker Patrika. As of September 2022, the circulation of Ajker Patrika is around 1,08,100.

Dainik Desh Rupantor is a Bengali-language newspaper published from Tejgaon Industrial Area, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The editor is Mustafa Mamun. It is printed by Mahir Ali Khan Ratul on behalf of Rupayan Media and Communications Ltd. It is published online and on paper.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">An Open Letter from Shah Ahmad Shafi to the Government and the Public</span> Bangladeshi open letter

On February 19, 2013, Shah Ahmad Shafi, leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, published an open letter to the public and the government on the front page of Amar Desh. In the letter, he condemned the ongoing Shahbag protests, claiming they were tied to anti-Islamic activities. He accused the Ahmadiyya community and an anti-Islamic online group of involvement, naming individuals such as Shahriar Kabir, Muntassir Mamoon, Zafar Iqbal, Gholam Rabbani, and Ajoy Roy as responsible. Shafi called on the government to take action against these activities and urged the public to speak out against them. This letter marked Hefazat-e-Islam's entry into the political landscape, initiating the Islamist response to the Shahbag protests and leading to the development of its 13-point demand.

Dainik Kalbela is a daily newspaper published from Bangladesh. The newspaper received its first publication permission on 25 January 1991 from the Government of Bangladesh. Santosh Sharma is the publisher of the daily newspaper on behalf of Kalbela Media Limited. The headquarter of the newspaper is located in the Newmarket area of Dhaka. Abed Khan has served as the editor of the newspaper since June 2022. According to a government notification of 2022, the total number of daily Kalbela broadcasts was 1 lakh 41 thousand.

Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister of Bangladesh, has faced many criticism and controversies over years.
