The Defiant [1] is an American punk rock supergroup consisting of vocalist Dicky Barrett (the Mighty Mighty BossToneS), Pete Parada (the Offspring), Greg Camp (Smash Mouth), Johnny Rioux (Street Dogs), and Joey La Rocca (the Briggs).

Contents

Band formation

The band began as the result of writing sessions between Barrett, Camp and Parada during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, following Parada's controversial departure from the Offspring in 2021. [2] [3]

Debut album

The band released their debut album, If We're Really Being Honest, on October 27, 2023, through Cranberry Bog Records, followed by a string of promotional appearances on Timcast IRL and other television and internet programs.

Following the release, the band announced a major US tour supporting Me First and the Gimme Gimmes [4] in early 2024. The band performed their single "Dead Language" [5] on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on April 3, 2024.

It will be their first album with bassist Todd Morse as an official member and the first album with multi-instrumentalist Jonah Nimoy and drummer Brandon Pertzborn. The bass duties were split between Morse and singer and guitarist Dexter Holland, while drum duties were split between Pertzborn and Josh Freese.

Adam David "Atom" Willard is an American drummer who has been a member of several notable musical acts. His career began in 1990 when he joined Rocket from the Crypt, with whom he remained until 2000. Subsequently, he joined the Special Goodness, the Offspring, and in 2005 became a founding member of Angels & Airwaves. In 2007 Willard departed from the Offspring to focus on his work with Angels & Airwaves, and in April 2009 he also joined Social Distortion, but left the following March. In June 2011, he joined the band Danko Jones and in October 2011 amicably left Angels & Airwaves. From 2013 to 2020, he was the drummer for Against Me! until their indefinite hiatus. He is best known as a founding member of the rock band Smash Mouth and served as a guitarist and songwriter across several stints. Camp left Smash Mouth after 16 years and has remained an active songwriter and music producer, though he has rejoined Smash Mouth periodically. Camp is currently a member of The Defiant.

Peter Parada is an American musician who has been a member of several bands. Parada's drumming career began in 1995 when he joined L.A. band World In Pain on a recommendation from future Korn drummer Ray Luzier and then Steel Prophet in 1996 with whom he recorded one album a year later. Subsequently he joined Face to Face, Saves the Day and the Offspring, where he was a member from 2007 to 2021 and served as the band's second longest-serving drummer, behind Ron Welty. Parada was also associated with the metal band Engine and Rob Halford's solo project Halford, and briefly played drums in the punk band Alkaline Trio. He has also toured with My Chemical Romance, Devo and The Bronx. Parada joined YouTuber Tim Pool's band Timcast for their songs "Only Ever Wanted" and "Genocide" and in 2023 co-founded the band the Defiant.

Jackson United is an American punk rock band, formed by singer and lead guitarist Chris Shiflett in 2003. Shiflett recruited his older brother Scott Shiflett (bass) and Pete Parada (drums) to complete the band. A debut eponymous EP was recorded and released in 2003. Shortly after this release Parada left the band. He was replaced by Cary Lascala, and the group was then further expanded with the addition of a rhythm guitarist, Doug Sangalang.

Johnny Rioux is a musician primarily known for playing in and working with many punk rock bands. He was initially based in Boston, MA but is now based in Texas. Rioux is most known for his tenure as bass guitarist with the Street Dogs with whom he joined in 2003.

<i>Summer Nationals</i> 2014 EP by The Offspring

Summer Nationals is the fourth EP by the American punk rock band the Offspring, released digitally in 2014 to coincide with the Summer Nationals tour with Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Vandals, Stiff Little Fingers and Naked Raygun. The EP contains covers of Bad Religion and Pennywise songs, and was released on Time Bomb, making this The Offspring's first venture away from Columbia since 1994's Smash. It is also the first Offspring release that session drummer Josh Freese did not play on since 2000's Conspiracy of One. It's the last Offspring release that features founding member and bassist Greg K., who was fired in 2018.

"Coming for You" is a song by the American punk rock band the Offspring. It was premiered on Radio Contraband on January 30, 2015, and posted on YouTube and made available for digital download the same day. "Coming for You" was the Offspring's second official new release since Days Go By (2012), and a modified version of the song appeared six years later on the band's tenth studio album, Let the Bad Times Roll (2021), with minor changes to the lyrics. The single climbed on various Billboard rock charts, reaching No. 1 on Mainstream Rock, top 20 on Alternative Songs, and top 25 on overall Hot Rock Songs.

<i>Let the Bad Times Roll</i> 2021 studio album by the Offspring

Let the Bad Times Roll is the tenth studio album by American rock band the Offspring, released on April 16, 2021. Produced by Bob Rock, it is the band's first release on Concord Records, and their first studio album in nine years since Days Go By (2012), marking the longest gap between two Offspring studio albums. Let the Bad Times Roll also marks the band's first album without bassist and co-founding member Greg K., who was fired from the Offspring in 2018. Even though new bassist Todd Morse had already joined the band and appeared in the video for the album’s title track and "This Is Not Utopia", bass guitar accompaniment was provided by guitarist and vocalist Dexter Holland. It is the second and last album to feature drummer Pete Parada, who was fired from the band in July 2021 for refusing to get a COVID-19 vaccination, due to suffering from Guillain–Barré syndrome.
