The Donoho School is a private school in Anniston, Alabama, United States, that was honored by the Blue Ribbon Schools Program in 2005. [2] The Donoho School serves students in grades PK through 12. [1]
The Anniston Academy was founded as a secondary institution in 1963 and renamed in 1976. [3] The present Lower Division was founded as The Episcopal Day School in 1961 as an independent elementary school. Housed originally in the facilities of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church (Anniston, Alabama), the school moved into Grace Episcopal Church in 1967.
In 1970, headmaster Allan Strand attributed the school's growth to white parents fleeing racially integrated public schools. [4] In 1976, Anniston Academy was primarily white but had several black students. [3]
In 1976 the name was changed to The Donoho School in recognition of Mrs. Harriet Wallis Donoho, a founder and benefactor of the school. In 1983, then headmaster Tom Potts said they the name change was also motivated by a desire to distance the school from similarly named all white segregation academies that had opened in other Alabama cities [5]
In the summer of 1976, The Episcopal Day School merged with The Donoho School and became the Lower Division. In 1980 the Lower and Middle Divisions moved into a new facility constructed on the Donoho campus and The Donoho Upper School divided to become a Middle Division, containing grades seven and eight, and an Upper Division for grades nine through twelve.
In 1981, the headmaster said the school was not a segregation academy and would like to enroll more black students. [6]
In 1989, the Middle Division moved into a new facility constructed adjacent to the Upper Division. This expansion allowed the school to offer two sections per grade in kindergarten through grade twelve. Further additions in the early childhood department have brought the school to its current status of two sections in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve.
The Donoho School 75-acre (30 ha) campus is located in the foothills of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Anniston, Alabama is accessible with two exits on Interstate Route 20 approximately 100 miles (160 km) from Atlanta, Georgia, to the east, and 60 miles (97 km) from Birmingham, Alabama, to the west.

Franklin Road Academy (FRA) is a private co-educational Christian school for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 located in Oak Hill, Tennessee. The Alabama Independent School Association is an organization of private schools in Alabama, formed in 1966 as the Alabama Private School Association. Originally a group of eight segregation academies, the membership grew to 60 by the 1971–72 school year. In 1990, the group voted to change its name to the Alabama Independent School Association. In 2008, an all-black school, Restoration Academy joined the AISA with no serious incidents. Today, the AISA serves 70 member schools. Most member schools are located in the state of Alabama, but one member school is located in Meridian, MS and one affiliate member is located in Smyrna, TN

Allen Academy is an independent co-educational day school located in Bryan, Texas that was founded in 1886 by John H. and Rivers O. Allen. The 40-acre (16 ha) campus is located seven miles (11 km) northeast of Texas A&M University and enrolls about 340 students from throughout the Brazos Valley. The school is the oldest private school in the state of Texas and is a non-denominational pre-kindergarten through grade 12 school. It is a member of both the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Allen is also the only NAIS member school within a 75-mile (121 km) radius. In 1916, military training was introduced into the school. In 1986, girls were allowed into the school for the first time.
