This location lies off the Nairobi-Kajiado-Namanga Road, approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) south of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and the largest city in that country. [1] The approximate coordinates of the university campus are:1° 39' 0.00"S, +36° 54' 0.00"E (Latitude:-1.6500; Longitude:36.9000). Central business district commercial and business centre of a city

A central business district (CBD) is the commercial and business center of a city. In larger cities, it is often synonymous with the city's "financial district". Geographically, it often coincides with the "city centre" or "downtown", but the two concepts are separate: many cities have a central business district located away from its commercial or cultural city centre or downtown, or even several CBDs at once. In London, for example, the "city centre" is usually regarded as encompassing the historic City of London and the mediaeval City of Westminster, whereas the City of London and the transformed Docklands area are regarded as its two CBDs. In New York City, Midtown Manhattan is the largest central business district in the city and in the world; yet Lower Manhattan, commonly called Downtown Manhattan, represents the second largest, and second, distinct CBD in New York City and is geographically situated south of Midtown. In Chicago, the Chicago Loop is the second largest central business district in the United States and is also referred to as the core of the city's downtown. Mexico City also has a historic city centre, the colonial-era Centro Histórico, along with two CBDs: the mid-late 20th century Paseo de la Reforma – Polanco, and the new Santa Fe.

Kitengela Other Centre in Kajiado County, Kenya

Kitengela is a plain in Kenya, located south of capital Nairobi. Kitengela begun as The Kitengela group ranch, made up of 18,292 ha and 214 registered members which was subdivided in 1988 in efforts by the Government to encourage private land ownership in pastoral systems, with the aim of intensifying and commercializing livestock production. After subdivision of the group ranch, land fragmentation and sales have continued at a steady and escalating pace. The human population within the Kitengela area has more than doubled in the last 10 years, from 6548 in 1989 to 17,347 in 1999 to 58,167 in 2009. There is also a town named Kitengela in the area.

Kajiado County County in Kenya

Kajiado County is a county in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. It has a population of 687,312 and an area of 21,292.7 km². The county borders Nairobi and extends to the Tanzania border further south. The county capital is Kajiado but the largest town is Ngong. Its main tourist attraction is wildlife.

The university also has another campus located at View Park Towers, Utalii Lane within the CBD (Central Business District) in Nairobi.

History

The idea to start the university was conceived in 2005. In 2006, 100 acres (0.40 km2) of land were acquired in Kitengela, for the purpose of establishing the university. [2] Application was then made to the Commission for University Education ([ permanent dead link ]) for a Tertiary Education Institution License. The license was granted in November 2010 and was handed over to the university officials by the chairman of the commission, Prof. Ezra Maritum. [3]
