It was inspired by real events aboard QE2 in May 1972 when Royal Marines and Special Boat Service personnel parachuted onto the ship because of a bomb hoax.
When Saturday Comes is a 1996 British film directed by Maria Giese and starring Sean Bean and Emily Lloyd. The film was released in March 1996, and was distributed by Guild Film Distribution. The soundtrack includes a variety of classic music tracks as well as newly commissioned songs. The score was composed by Anne Dudley and the soundtrack includes contributions from Tony Hadley of Spandau Ballet and Sheffield artists including Def Leppard's Joe Elliott who performs on two new tracks: "When Saturday Comes" and the instrumental "Jimmy's Theme". Both were performed with bandmates Rick Savage and Phil Collen. According to Elliott, he had a part in the film as the brother of Sean Bean's character, but the part was cut from the final film.

The film was distributed and financed by MGM, a studio which was in financial difficulty at the time. The head of the studio was former Paramount executive Frank Mancuso Sr.

Buck James Pierce is the offensive coordinator of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and a former professional quarterback who played nine seasons for the BC Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. He spent the first five years of his career with the Lions before signing with the Blue Bombers for the 2010 CFL season. During the 2013 CFL season, he rejoined the Lions when the Blue Bombers traded him for Akeem Foster. He played in two Grey Cup games, winning a championship in 2006 and also won as part of the coaching staff with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2019 and 2021. He played college football at New Mexico State from 2001–2004, starting at quarterback for most of his senior year.

The film is an ensemble piece that covers the period between 27 August 1939 and 9 September 1940, when World War II began and London was subjected to aerial bombing, and is a tribute to the solidarity of not just those engaged in service, but among the British people as a whole.

Sam Lloyd is a former Australian rules footballer. He played for the Western Bulldogs and the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Lloyd played as a midfielder and small forward and was renowned for his goal-sense and ability to win forward line one-on-one contests.
