Reception for the Fundamental Component ranged from slightly to generally positive.
AllMusic felt that the albums' best songs were "unveiling truly progressive and exploratory melodic passages"; but that the remainder was hindered by excessive tinkering and split style between metal sub-genres. [1]
Disagreeing with these negatives, Lambgoat appreciated the split musical influences, praising both the groove and hard violence of the guitars. The variety of vocals also received praise, especially of the control demonstrated when varying between different styles. The review summarised with "Any fan of heavy metal should love this album, because there is something for everyone". [2]
Exclaim! also appreciated the instrumental variety, but scorned the quality of OJ's singing as "atrociously meager", with a combined effect that though the album was interesting, several pieces became unbearable. [3]
Blues for the Red Sun is the second studio album by American rock band Kyuss, released in 1992. While the album received mainly favorable reviews, it fared poorly commercially, selling only 39,000 units. It has since become a very influential album within the stoner rock genre. It was the last Kyuss album to feature bassist Nick Oliveri, who was replaced by Scott Reeder shortly after recording had been completed. Reeder had previously played with the Obsessed.

Every Time I Die is an American metalcore band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1998. They have garnered acclaim for their energetic and intense live shows. They announced in July 2008 that they had left their label Ferret Music and signed with Epitaph Records instead. Their eighth and latest studio album Low Teens was released through Epitaph in September 2016.
It Dies Today is an American metalcore band that formed in Buffalo, New York during September 2001. The band achieved popular success in 2004 with the release of their debut album, The Caitiff Choir. After frontman Nicholas Brooks departed in 2006, just after the release of the band's sophomore effort Sirens, It Dies Today released Lividity in 2009 before going on an hiatus in 2010. The band reunited briefly for a show in 2012, but the reunion paused again in 2015.
Last Night in Town is the first studio album by the American metalcore band Every Time I Die. After recording a demo, the band signed with the independent label Goodfellow Records in 2000 and released The Burial Plot Bidding War EP. The band signed to Ferret Music in mid-2000 and was planning to record its first album later in the year. After writing was completed in December of that year, the band went on several US tours until March 2001. In March and April, Last Night in Town was recorded with the Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts. Following recording, the band went on tour with Killswitch Engage and Santa Sangre.
Too Bad You're Beautiful is the debut studio album by Long Island-based post-hardcore band From Autumn to Ashes. The album is unique in that it features the dual vocals of Benjamin Perri and drummer Francis Mark. Perri provides the hardcore-esque shouts while Mark sings and occasionally contributes background screams. The album was reissued in 2005 with the Sin, Sorrow, and Sadness demo as bonus tracks at the end.
