The inn has been originally been a church or parish house dating back to the 15th century. [2] In 1967 it was made a listed building. [3]
The George Inn in Chardstock was closed permanently during the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents formed the George Inn Continuity Group after Chardstock Parish Council recognised it as an asset of community value. [4] They called on Historic England and East Devon District Council to intervene to save the "at risk" building. [5] The campaign was supported by local Member of Parliament Simon Jupp. [6] The inn is reportedly in poor condition. [7]
Axminster is a market town and civil parish on the eastern border of the county of Devon in England. It is 28 miles (45 km) from the county town of Exeter. The town is built on a hill overlooking the River Axe which heads towards the English Channel at Axmouth, and is in the East Devon local government district.
