The Grocer is a British digital and magazine service devoted to grocery sales, published by William Reed Ltd. It has been published since 1862. [1]
A feature of the service is 'The Grocer 33'. This is a survey of each of the 5 leading supermarkets' (Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose) prices and availability on a range of 33 popular lines and published in each issue. [2] The survey is conducted by "mystery shoppers" and different branches in varying parts of the country are used for each week's survey. The supermarkets place prominence on this feature and ASDA heavily promotes the fact it has been the lowest-priced supermarket in The Grocer's survey for the past fifteen years. [3]

It expanded into Southern England during the 1970s and 1980s, and acquired Allied Carpets, 61 large Gateway Supermarkets and other businesses, such as MFI Group. It sold these acquisitions during the 1990s to concentrate on the supermarkets. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange until 1999 when it was acquired by Walmart for £6.7 billion. Asda was the second-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom between 2003 and 2014 by market share, at which point it fell into third place.

As of September 2022, Wakefern members owned 365 supermarkets.
Woolworths Supermarkets is an Australian chain of supermarkets and grocery stores owned by Woolworths Group. Founded in 1924, Woolworths today is Australia's biggest supermarket chain with a market share of 33% as of 2019.
Rice Epicurean Markets was an American niche grocery store chain based in Southwest Houston, Houston, Texas. There is now just one supermarket left of the chain. Prior to 2012 the company operated five Rice Epicurean Markets, which ranged in size from 25,000 to 42,000 square feet (3,900 m2). At its height, it operated 35 stores. The last Rice Epicurean Market is wholly owned by founding family members.

He was a founder and the president of Central Markets, a chain of grocery stores in upstate New York that established some of the first supermarkets in the United States, and is now known as Price Chopper. He was also a noted philanthropist, especially known for his support of Jewish causes as well as charitable activities in Schenectady and the Capital District of New York.
