The Honest Love is the first extended play from Abel. Dreamt Records released the EP on September 1, 2009.

Abel was an American rock band from Poughkeepsie, New York. The band primarily played alternative rock and indie rock music, with soul music influences. The band began making music in 2008, and disbanded in 2013. Membership consisted of vocalist/guitarist Kevin Kneifel, guitarist Dan Bishop, bassist Alex David, and drummer John Rell III. The band released an extended play, The Honest Love, in 2009, through Dreamt Music. Their first studio album, Lesser Men, was released by Come&Live! Records, in 2010. Their final studio album, Make It Right, was released independently in 2012.

Facedown Records is a Christian rock record label based in Fallbrook, California that is devoted to hardcore punk and metalcore bands with a few death metal acts such as Immortal Souls and Indwelling. Founded by No Innocent Victim drummer Jason Dunn, the label started small with a number of 7" record releases by Overcome, Dodgin Bullets, and Born Blind. As the label grew, it was able to sign artists for full album deals. xDISCIPLEx and the Deal, who were both popular in the Christian and secular scenes, released material on Facedown, as well as Figure Four, One-21, and Point of Recognition. The label also signs straight edge groups such as xDEATHSTARx and xLooking Forwardx.

Awarding the EP three and a half stars from Jesus Freak Hideout, Timothy Estabrooks writes, "the music is pleasant and the lyrics are strong." [3] Ian Webber, rating the EP six out of ten for Cross Rhythms, states, "Abel have written a collection of tracks that verge on worship music, not unlike Telecast." [1] Giving the EP three stars at Indie Vision Music, Scott.L describes, "Abel’s not gonna blow your mind, but then, they certainly won’t be putting you to sleep either." [2]

Cross Rhythms is a Christian media organisation based in Stoke-on-Trent, England. It operates an FM and online radio station, produces radio shows sent internationally, and its website has resources on contemporary Christian music.
