The Island (also known as Newgate Tower, [2] and previously ISLAND [3] and IYLO) is a residential skyscraper in the London Borough of Croydon, London. In 2018, the building's 17th-floor penthouse apartment was described as the "most expensive flat in Croydon". [1]
The building was designed to have 20 floors of apartments and a roof height of 61 metres (200 ft). [4] The tower is elliptical in plan comprising two equal halves which appear to "slide" past one another. [5] The architects of the building are Darling Associates Architecture,[ citation needed ] with a number of other firms working on the building including Phoenix Logistics, E3 Property International, Lancsville Construction, Jones Lang LaSalle, Matthew Consultants, Macfarlane Wilder, Scott Wilson, Scott Wilson, Cole Jarman Associates and DP9.[ citation needed ]
The tower is part of the Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration plan for Croydon [ citation needed ] to add to its goal of being "London's Third City".[ citation needed ]
Construction began in 2007,[ citation needed ] and halted in 2009 when the projects funding source HBOS went into administration. [6] It restarted in late 2010 but officially stopped in June 2011, following the construction company, St James's Croydon, a subsidiary of developers Phoenix Logistics entering administration. [7] By March 2012 the site was showing increasing signs of vandalism and graffiti and on 22 April 2012 the construction crane was removed from the site. In November 2012, a number of the apartments which had been fitted with the exterior glass still displayed 'Sold' signs (which date back to when the building was still under construction and being marketed), and a number on the lower floors were left with timber or plastic coverings. The lower floors of the building and the hoardings around the site were daubed with graffiti.[ citation needed ]
Construction was expected to start again in late 2012 [8] but after some delay [9] work finally restarted in June 2013 [3] following the sale of the site to Regency Homes with a £900,000 discount and rename of the site to "Island" [10] with an estimated completion of 2015.
Construction of the building was completed in 2014. [1]
The building is located at the northern end of Croydon town centre and is close to transport links in the town. The nearest railway station is West Croydon. There is a bus station at West Croydon. Tramlink services from West Croydon are on the Croydon Loop and go eastbound only towards East Croydon and beyond. The closest tram stop for westbound services is East Croydon station.

Eureka Tower is a 297.3 m (975 ft) skyscraper located in the Southbank precinct of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Construction began in August 2002 and the exterior was completed on 1 June 2006. The plaza was finished in June 2006 and the building was officially opened on 11 October 2006. The project was designed by Melbourne architectural firm Fender Katsalidis Architects and was built by Grocon. The developer of the tower was Eureka Tower Pty Ltd, a joint venture consisting of Daniel Grollo (Grocon), investor Tab Fried and one of the Tower's architects Nonda Katsalidis.

Park Hill Recreation Ground is a 15 acres (6.1 ha) park near the centre of Croydon, Greater London, managed by the London Borough of Croydon. It runs from Barclay Road to Coombe Road beside the railway line, with the main entrances on Water Tower Hill and Barclay Road. The nearest stations are East Croydon to the north for Tramlink and National Rail services and South Croydon to the south for National Rail. The park was officially renamed as Park Hill in 1964.
The Croydon Exp07 was a series of events held from 2007, aimed at business and residents in the London Borough of Croydon, UK to demonstrate the £2bn of development projects planned for Croydon in the next 10 years. It is part of the Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration programme. The building is taller than allowed by the zoning code at the time. A deal was made with the city for a variance in exchange for employing union workers—fulfillment is still under dispute.

Altitude 25 is an apartment building on Fairfield Road in the London Borough of Croydon, London. It is Croydon's fourth tallest building. The development was intended to regenerate a brownfield site near to East Croydon station. The building was completed in 2009, and has 26 floors of apartments up to floor 25, hence the name Altitude 25, a roof height of 82.00 and a structural height of 94 m (307 ft). It is part of the Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration project for a new generation of buildings in the town.

The development was formerly known as City Pride, the same name as the public house it replaced, before a name change in 2016.
