The Jeb Loy Nichols Special is a record by Jeb Loy Nichols, released in 2012 on the Decca Records label. It was recorded in an analogue studio in Dollis Hill, London, with producer Benedic Lamdin and his Nostalgia 77, a band of jazz musicians. [1]
As well as original material, the album features a number of cover versions: "Things Ain’t What They Used To Be (And Probably Never Was)" by Larry Jon Wilson, "Going Where The Lonely Go" by Merle Haggard, "Ain’t It Funny" by George Jackson, "Waiting Round To Die" by Townes Van Zandt and "Hard Times" by Pablo Gad.
Nichols' ninth release received positive reviews. The BBC said "it is an impressive vision' [2] The New Zealand Herald said "Nichols brings just enough folk and blues to the mix, which means the (songs) are in very safe, smooth hands." [3] Angus Cargill of Caught by the River said "The Jeb Loy Nichols Special is, above all, one of those great albums which, with a natural rhythm and pacing to it, just seems to make sense." [4]
"Ain't No Sunshine" is a song by Bill Withers from his 1971 album Just As I Am, produced by Booker T. Jones. The record featured musicians Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass guitar, Al Jackson Jr. on drums and Stephen Stills on guitar. String arrangements were done by Booker T. Jones. The song was recorded in Los Angeles, with overdubs in Memphis by engineer Terry Manning.

Benedic Lamdin is a British music producer, composer, songwriter and guitarist who releases music as Nostalgia 77. He has produced Nostalgia 77 albums since 2004, with a variety of other musicians, some of which are instrumental and some have guest vocalists. "His music encompasses everything from sample-based compositions to collaborations with real, live musicians". Lamdin has also written and produced for assorted singers, including Jamie Cullum, Alice Russell, and Jeb Loy Nichols. He also runs his own jazz record label, Impossible Ark.
