The Litchfield Company was founded as a real estate development company in South Carolina in 1956 by A. Foster McKissick, James Bernice Moore, and Bill Miller Sr., among others.
The company owned a significant amount of land in the Pawleys Island area of South Carolina and spent forty years developing highly-amenitized resort communities stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Waccamaw River, many golf courses, and a large marina. The largest of those properties include:
After the company developed most of the land it owned, many properties and company divisions were sold or dissolved. The Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort, which includes the resort, hotel, Litchfield Racquet Club, and three golf courses is now owned and operated by Myrtle Beach National Company. Waccamaw Management, a division which handled property management and landscaping, was sold and currently manages properties throughout the Grand Strand, including most of the properties originally developed by TLCo. The Reserve Golf Club was purchased by its members, and now operates independently. Additionally, the Reserve Harbor Marina was purchased by Morningstar Marinas of Matthews, NC. It now operates as the Reserve Harbor Yacht Club.
The company's real estate brokerage division was recently purchased by two local businessmen, and operates as The Litchfield Company Real Estate, LLC. Today, the company is recognized as one of the largest resort sales and marketing firms in the southeast. The company is still located in the original Litchfield Company building on Ocean Highway near the entrance to Litchfield By The Sea.
Marina del Rey is an unincorporated seaside community in Los Angeles County, California, with an eponymous harbor that is a major boating and water recreation destination of the greater Los Angeles area. The port is North America's largest man-made small-craft harbor and is home to approximately 5,000 boats. The area is a popular tourism destination for both land and water activities such as paddle board and kayak rentals, dining cruises, and yacht charters. Murrells Inlet is an unincorporated area and census-designated place in Georgetown County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,547 at the 2010 census. It is about 13 miles south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and 21 miles north of Georgetown, the county seat.
Sea Island is a privately owned, unincorporated area of Glynn County, Georgia, and is part of the Golden Isles of Georgia, which include St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, and the mainland city of Brunswick. The well-visited seaside resort island is located along the Atlantic Coast just east of St. Simons Island. It lies about 60 miles (97 km) north of Jacksonville, Florida and about 60 miles (97 km) south of Savannah, Georgia, and is reachable via a causeway from St. Simons Island. Dubai Marina is a district in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is an artificial canal city, built along a 3-kilometre (2 mi) stretch of Persian Gulf shoreline. As of 2018, it has a population of 55,052. When the entire development is complete, it will accommodate more than 120,000 people in residential towers and villas. It is located on Interchange 5 between Jebel Ali Port and the area which hosts Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, and the American University in Dubai. Fisherman's Village is a waterfront mall, commercial boat anchorage and tourist attraction located in the world's largest man-made small boat harbor in Los Angeles County at Marina del Rey, California. The Ballona Wetlands State Ecological Reserve is immediately east of Fisherman's Village and immediately to the south is the federally-owned riverine estuary of Ballona Creek. The historical Fisherman's Village that was built 53 years ago in 1967 is nestled on the eastern bank of main harbor entrance channel between Whiskey Reds restaurant to the south and the Windward boatyard to the north.

Figure Eight Island is a barrier island in the U.S. state of North Carolina, just north of Wrightsville Beach, widely known as an affluent summer colony and vacation destination. The island is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Area, and lies between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
