"The Madras Song" is a song by Indian vocalist Shakthisree Gopalan and produced by the Murugappa Group as a tribute to the city of Madras (currently known as Chennai). It was launched in commemoration of the 375th anniversary of the founding of Madras, which was celebrated in August 2014. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

A sequel to this song by Opus G7 for The Hindu group called Madras Beats was launched in 2016 on the eve of 377th anniversary celebrations of Madras Day. [7]

Storyline

The story [8] is of a female protagonist, Ruchi Kumar, who misses her flight back home and is stuck in Madras. With three days in hand, she turns to social media to help her discover the city of Madras.

The song features actor/model Yasmin Ponnappa, [9] as the protagonist Ruchi Kumar, apart from the many other stars from different walks of life like Viswanathan Anand, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Sudha Raghunathan, Naresh Iyer, Aalap Raju, Haricharan, Priyadarshini Govind, RJ Balaji, “Crazy" Mohan and "Maadhu" Balaji.

Madrasapattinam is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language historical romantic drama film written and directed by A. L. Vijay. The film stars Arya with Amy Jackson,, while Carole Trangmar-Palmer played older version of Amy. Nassar, Cochin Hanifa, Lisa Lazarus, and Alexx O'Nell play supporting roles. The music was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar with editing by Anthony and cinematography by Nirav Shah. The film was released on 9 July 2010 and became a box office success.

<i>Madras</i> (soundtrack) 2014 soundtrack album by Santhosh Narayanan

Madras is the soundtrack album of the 2014 Tamil drama film of the same name written and directed by Pa. Ranjith and produced by Studio Green. Santhosh Narayanan composed the soundtrack album and background score for the film. The album consists of seven tracks with five songs and two themes. While Gana Bala penned the lyrics for the two songs sung by him, the remaining three were penned by Kabilan and Umadevi. The soundtrack album was released on 27 June 2014.

"Spirit of Chennai" is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language single composed by C Girinandh and directed by Vikram. The song was made as a flood relief anthem in response to the 2015 South Indian floods which affected Chennai, and was stated by the makers to be a "tribute to all the volunteers".

Yasmin Ponnappa is an Indian model and actress from Bangalore. After appearing in print media and television commercials, Yasmin first worked as an actress in Thiagarajan Kumararaja's gangster film Aaranya Kaandam (2011).

Vaanam Kottattum is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by Dhana, who co-wrote the film with Mani Ratnam. The film has an ensemble cast of R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Radhika Sarathkumar and Aishwarya Rajesh with an ensemble supporting cast. The film is produced by Mani Ratnam for Madras Talkies, with the latter also credited for co-writing the film's script. The film released on 7 February 2020.
