The Man from Kathmandu is the first English language Nepalese film directed and written by Pema Dhondup. [1] The film is Dhondup's second feature film and features Gulshan Grover, Hameed Sheikh, Jose Manuel, Anna Sharma, Michael Brian, Karma Shakya, Neer Shah, Mithila Sharma. [2] [3] The film also brings in new talent from the industry including the cast. The film trailer is receiving highly positive reviews for its story as it shows religious unity and speaks against radicalism. [4] [5]

In 2021, Sano Sansar was shown again in theaters after COVID-19 lockdown ended in the country, it was after 13 years of its official release date it was shown again in some of the theaters. They took this decision in order to bring back audience to the theaters, because producers were not ready to release their unreleased films in fear of losing potential audience, since they were unsure if people are ready to attend theater after long pandemic.

<i>Basanti</i> (2000 film) 2000 Nepalese film

Basanti is a 2000 Nepali historical romantic film directed by Neer Shah. The cast includes Karishma Manandhar, Rajesh Hamal, Gauri Malla and Ashok Sharma. This movie is based on a novel of the same name written by one of the prominent Nepalese novelists Diamond Shumsher Rana, who fictionalized a love story on a historical plot. The film met with huge positive response from critics and audience with praise directed towards performance of the cast and direction of Shah. The film was a big commercial success at the box office. The film is considered as one of the best film ever made in Nepali cinema history and the best movie in the historical movie genre.


Bahun, also known as Hill Brahmins, are a Brahmin varna among the Khas of Nepal. Their origins are from the Himalayan belt of South Asia. According to the 2011 Nepal census, Bahun is the second most populous group after Chhetri.

"Melancholy" is an environmentally-themed song sung by 365 Nepali artists. This song was intended to promote an environmental message by breaking the Guinness World Records for "Most Vocal Solos in a Song Recording", which it successfully did. It was written, music composed and directed by environmentalist Nipesh Dhaka. The song was recorded as a single on 19 May 2016. The recording sessions were inaugurated by Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli at 8 am and continued until 6 pm. The song was released on 2 September 2017 by President Bidya Devi Bhandari at Army Officer's Club, Kathmandu.

Muna Madan is a 2003 Nepalese tragic romance film, directed by Gyanendra Deuja. The film is based on novel of the same name written by Laxmi Prasad Devkota. The film is produced by Nabaraj Dhakal under the banner of N.B.A. Chalchitra. The film stars Deepak Tripathi, and Usha Poudel in the lead roles alongside Subhadra Adhikari, Vijaya Lama, Mithila Sharma, Neer Shah, Dinesh D.C., and Shivahari Poudel. The film was selected as the Nepalese entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 76th Academy Awards but it wasn't nominated.

<i>Basudev</i> 1984 Nepali film by Neer Shah

Basudev is a 1984 Nepali language film, adapted from Dhruba Chandra Gautam's Kattel Sarko Chotpatak by Neer Shah in his directorial debut. The film starred Harihar Sharma as the eponymous character, with Shakuntala Sharma, Subhadra Adhikari, Krishna Malla, Sharmila Malla and director Shah himself in supporting roles, while Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya were credited as guest actors. While the film was a critical and commercial success, it was criticised by some for its departure from the source material; Dhruba Chandra Gautam expressed disappointment at the film for being markedly different from the script he had written for the film. Neer Shah has conceded that various artistic compromises were made for commercial reasons which he came to regret later on. He is said to be actively planning a remake.

Suntali is a 2014 Nepali black-comedy film, directed by Bhaskar Dhungana. The film is produced by Bhaskar Dhungana, Jaya Shah, and Prachanda Shrestha under the banner of Blue Poppy Films. It stars Priyanka Karki, Karma Shakya, Sushma Karki, Bipin Karki, and Pramod Agrahari. The film follows Suntali's relationship with Sundar.

Municipal election for Kathmandu took place on 13 May 2022, with all 162 positions up for election across 32 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 32 ward chairs and 128 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive.
