The Monster is an upcoming horror-thriller film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by James Greer and Jonathan Bernstein. It stars Djimon Hounsou, Lauren LaVera, and Mia Healey.

Premise

Two millennials scam unsuspecting tenants by renting out expensive New York City apartments that they do not actually own. The scheme works until they encounter an apartment owner with a hidden agenda, who turns the tables on them. [1]

Production

In October 2024, it was reported that Djimon Hounsou, Lauren LaVera, and Mia Healey were cast in the leading roles. [2] [3] Alicia Witt, Neal McDonough, Gina Philips, Jacob Lukas Anderson, Michael Lombardi and David Call were later cast. [4] Darren Lynn Bousman signed on to direct from a script by James Greer and Jonathan Bernstein. Lee Nelson and David Tish from Envision Media Arts, and Mark Burg produced the film. [1]

Principal photography began in November 2024 in the Connecticut cities of Danbury and New Haven. It is expected to conclude in five weeks. [5]

Release

In December 2024, Republic Pictures acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film. [4]

Bousman is co-creator and writer of alternate reality games (ARG) and immersive experiences, The Tension Experience (2016), The Lust Experience (2017), Theatre Macabre (2018), iConfidant (2020), and One Day Die (2020).

Samer Ismail is a Syrian actor known for portraying the ancient character of Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second caliph of Islam in the pan-Arab television series Omar directed by Hatem Ali. The series was produced and broadcast by MBC. Some questioned his portrayal of the character of Omar, demanding to know Ismail's religious origin. Ismail refused to reveal his religious denomination saying that this was a personal matter and was irrelevant to his role.
