The Operacycle was an American indie rock band from Portland, Oregon. Initially formed as a solo project by multi-instrumentalist Jordan Hudson, the act's sole full-length album, Warmer, was released in 2000.
Jordan Hudson and guitarist Zak Riles moved to San Francisco in the late 1990s from their home state of Florida. There, they met bassist Victwa and played one live show together before moving to Portland, Oregon. [3] The 21-year-old Hudson composed the songs that would make up the album Warmer from his Portland home. The album, for which recording took over two years to complete, contains 13 songs and features 30 different "instruments" ranging from drums and guitars to household appliances to items such as door hinges and a tire iron. Warmer was released in September 2000 on Hush Records. In a review of the album, Peter J. D'Angelo of Allmusic wrote: "This is one of those records that are special enough to avoid being pigeonholed. All types of songwriting are pulled off expertly, though the lack of vocals on some of the softer tracks does leave a slightly empty feeling." [1] A Tiny Mix Tapes review stated: "It's refreshing [...] to hear experimental music that doesn't rely on distortion or minimalism to test the boundaries of song, but rather approaches the fledgling science with a foot in the classics." [2] Julianne Shepherd of The Portland Mercury described the band's mostly-instrumental music as "dark" and "hypnotic", and said: "There's simply no need for vocals; their guitars sing a communicative melody, and their drums are acute, yet easy--subtly textured beats that balance technicality and danceability." [3]
The Operacycle toured the United States during the autumn of 2000 and performed at the College Music Journal (CMJ) music festival in New York. In addition to Warmer, the group has appeared on various self-titled and split EPs. [3] In early 2002, Hudson became the founding drummer for The Thermals, [4] while Riles joined Grails as lead guitarist. In addition, both Hudson and Riles performed and recorded for many years with M. Ward.
Castaways and Cutouts is the first full-length album by The Decemberists, originally released on May 21, 2002, on Hush Records and reissued on May 6, 2003, on Kill Rock Stars. The album's title is taken from a lyric of the song "California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade".

The Thermals were an American indie rock band based in Portland, Oregon, United States. The group was formed in 2002. With influences heavily rooted in both lofi, as well as standard rock, the band's songs were also known for their political and religious imagery.
Bedhead was an American, Texas-based indie rock band, active from 1991 to 1998. Members consisted of Matt and Bubba Kadane, Tench Coxe (guitar), Kris Wheat (bass), and Trini Martinez (drums). The band released several EPs and three LPs on Trance Syndicate, touring intermittently. Bedhead's music was generally subdued, with three electric guitars and one electric bass guitar over sung or spoken vocals. Allmusic dubbed the group "the quintessential indie rock band," and Tiny Mix Tapes gave their final album Transaction de Novo a perfect 5/5 score.
Deserter's Songs is the fourth studio album by rock band Mercury Rev, released in late September 1998. British music magazine NME named Deserter's Songs album of the year for 1998. Limited edition copies of the album came in a brown cardboard envelope-like package, with a stamp on the cover postmarked with the release date, as well as two art postcards.

Doom is an EP and the debut release by Arizonan death metal group Job for a Cowboy. It was released in 2005 through the independent Arizona label King of the Monsters, and later reissued in 2006 by Metal Blade Records. The EP is noted for being Job for a Cowboy's only deathcore release, as the band would later abandon the genre in favor for a pure death metal sound proceeding this EP. Party of One is an indie rock trio from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They released their debut album, Caught the Blast, on May 27, 2003 on FatCat Records. They also released a single, "Shotgun Funeral", prior to this album, as well as another single, "Snap You Like a Twig", on April 20, 2004. The latter single was reviewed favorably by Shoo, a reviewer for Drowned in Sound, who compared it to the music of both Pavement and Ween. He also praised the single's B-side, "Star Sky Sierra", as being even better than the single itself. The band's members are lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Eric Fifteen, Geoff McCusick, and bassist Terrika Kleinknecht. Their music has been described as containing "typically confrontational, at times charmingly naïve messages", and as "punk only by historical association." Many critics have also described their music as negative and depressing. Julianne Shepherd has praised Fifteen's voice, which she compares to that of Sean Na Na, while Citypages has written that Fifteen "...models his political discontent with the ease of an immortal psychopath in a reusable bomb vest."
Anar Badalov is a Massachusetts-based Azerbaijani-American singer-songwriter and guitarist who founded the indie rock duos Metal Hearts and Travels. Badalov now performs and records as a solo act under the New Dog moniker.
Hiss Tracts is a Canadian experimental musical duo consisting of guitarist and sound engineer David Bryant and guitarist Kevin Doria. The pair have released one album, Shortwave Nights, by recording and combining instrumental and ambient sounds.
"Portland, Oregon" is a song written and recorded by American country singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. In 2004, she recorded the song as a duet with American rock musician Jack White. Shortly before its recording, White discovered the song on an old paper filed away in Lynn's attic. The song was among several old compositions Lynn recorded for her 2004 studio album, Van Lear Rose. "Portland, Oregon" was among the singles released from the album. Upon its release, the single received positive reception from writers and critics.
