The Resistance was a Swedish death metal band formed in 2011 by former members of In Flames, Grave, and The Haunted. Their music is described as old-school death metal with the aggressive elements of 1980s thrash and hardcore.

Contents

The band had problems getting a label, despite the members' successful work in their earlier projects. In an interview with Close Up, they stated that the labels were unwilling to sign the band without getting hand on an actual recording. The first full-length album named Scars was released in 2013. "It makes you want to kick in someone's forehead when listening to the album", according to Jesper Strömblad, the band's guitarist. The first planned album was cancelled, since the band members were not satisfied with the result. [1]

On 17 May 2016, a 'game over' profile picture appeared on their Facebook page, signalling the band has ceased all activities.[ citation needed ] On 22 July 2016, their Facebook presence was removed, further indicating the band are no longer together.[ citation needed ] No official announcement has been made regarding the status of the band.

Dark Tranquillity Swedish band

Sinergy was a Finnish heavy metal band started in 1997 by American musician Kimberly Goss. The idea for a "balls-out female-fronted metal band" was first formed when Kimberly Goss of Dimmu Borgir met Jesper Strömblad of In Flames whilst on tour in 1997.

In Flames is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed by guitarist Jesper Strömblad in Gothenburg in 1990. Alongside At the Gates and Dark Tranquillity, In Flames pioneered the genres known as Swedish death metal and melodic death metal.

Living Sacrifice is an American Christian metal band formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1989. The band has released eight studio albums, out of which the first three were recorded under R.E.X. Records with their original vocalist Darren Johnson as a more thrash metal and death metal oriented band. The band evolved into a groove metal and metalcore style beginning with Reborn (1997) under Solid State Records with the original guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh on vocals. In 2003, the group disbanded due to other projects and later their label, Solid State, released their best-of album, In Memoriam (2005). In 2008, Living Sacrifice reformed and released a two-song digital only single called Death Machine. They then began working on The Infinite Order which was released on January 26, 2010. Lance Garvin and Bruce Fitzhugh are the two remaining original members.

Roope Latvala Finnish guitarist (born 1970)

Roope Juhani Latvala is a Finnish guitarist, best known as the former rhythm guitarist for the band Children of Bodom from 2003 to 2015 and the co-lead electric guitarist for Sinergy. He was also one of the founding members of Stone, which was one of the first notable bands in the history of Finnish heavy metal.

Ceremonial Oath is a Swedish extreme metal band who formed in 1989 under the name "Desecrator", changed their name to Ceremonial Oath in 1991 and disbanded in 1996. During their short career they released three demos, one EP and two albums. Their influence is greater than their short lifespan suggests: several of the band members would later create or join metal bands that would gain fame and fortune on the future metal scene, such as In Flames, an influential band to the melodic death metal genre; and HammerFall, a band who would greatly influence the awakened interest in power metal and traditional heavy metal.

Jesper Strömblad Swedish musician (born 1972)

Clas Håkan Jesper Strömblad is a Swedish musician who is the guitarist of the bands The Halo Effect, Dimension Zero and Cyhra, and formerly of In Flames and The Resistance. He is best known as the founder and former guitarist/drummer/keyboardist of the Swedish pioneering melodic death metal band In Flames, guitarist of the band Sinergy, bassist of Ceremonial Oath and drummer of HammerFall. In 2013, he joined MDM band Nightrage as a session guitarist.

Dimension Zero

Dimension Zero is a melodic death metal band based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was formed in 1995 as a side project by In Flames' former guitarists Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström. The former Marduk drummer and vocalist Jocke Gothberg joined later on vocals, as well as Hans Nilsson on drums.

<i>Glory to the Brave</i> 1997 studio album by HammerFall

Glory to the Brave is the debut album by the Swedish power metal band HammerFall, released in 1997. Despite the fact that the band was formed in 1993, HammerFall performed mostly live music and covers before this album was released. "Steel Meets Steel" was composed by Oscar Dronjak just before the band was formed and is included on this album. The band signed a deal with the Dutch label Vic Records. Nuclear Blast approached Vic Records and obtained a license deal for the album. Later, Nuclear Blast bought the entire rights from Vic Records. Although the In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad was listed as the drummer, all the drums were actually played by session musician Patrik Räfling, who joined the band as a full-time member shortly after the album's release.

Sonic Syndicate Swedish metal band

Sonic Syndicate is a Swedish metalcore band from Falkenberg. They were formerly influenced by Swedish melodic death metal bands such as In Flames and Soilwork and American metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage and All That Remains.

Björn Gelotte Swedish musician and songwriter (born 1975)

Björn Gelotte is a Swedish musician and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist for metal band In Flames. He originally joined the band as the drummer in 1995, and continued in this position during The Jester Race (1996) and Whoracle (1997). He switched to his current position on lead guitar after Glenn Ljungström left the band, sharing lead/rhythm guitar work with former In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad.

<i>A Sense of Purpose</i> 2008 studio album by In Flames

A Sense of Purpose is the ninth studio album by Swedish metal band In Flames, first released in Japan on 26 March 2008. It was released on 1 April and 4 April 2008 in North America and Europe respectively. A Sense of Purpose is the last In Flames album with guitarist Jesper Strömblad, at this point the last original member, as he quit in February 2010. The album debuted at number 1 on the official Swedish album chart. On 21 May 2009, the song "Disconnected" became an available download for the video game Guitar Hero World Tour.

Claudio Andres Oyarzo Muñoz is a Swedish metal musician and youtuber. He currently lives in Gothenburg and played guitar with the melodic rock act Minora from Gothenburg and the bass with the Gothenburg-Stockholm metal band The Resistance. He played as a session member for a few months before he was asked to join the band, which happened during the video recording of the first single from the album Scars, called "Clearing the Slate".
