It is also the second-largest city in the San Diego metropolitan area, the seventh largest city in Southern California, the fifteenth largest city in the state of California, and the 78th-largest city in the United States. The population was 275,487 as of the 2020 census, up from 243,916 as of the 2010 census. Located about halfway—7.5 miles (12.1 km)—between the two downtowns of San Diego and Tijuana in the South Bay, the city is at the center of one of the richest culturally diverse zones in the United States. Chula Vista is so named because of its scenic location between the San Diego Bay and coastal mountain foothills.

Options Secondary School, is located in Chula Vista, California on the Chula Vista Adult School campus. It is run under the "Alternative Education" division of the Sweetwater Union High School District, which also runs the Independent Studies program. It has a small campus and a low ratio of students to teachers, in some cases, no more than twenty students in a class. The school operates on a bell schedule from 12:10 PM to 6:06 PM, with three periods a day. Period one is from 12:10 to 1:52, followed by a thirty minute lunch period. After this, second period begins at 2:27, and runs until 4:09. After a ten-minute passing period, period three finishes the school day, from 4:19 all the way to 6:06.
Palm City is a neighborhood in the southern section of San Diego. Its neighbors are Otay Mesa West to the south and east, Egger Highlands and Nestor to the west, and Chula Vista to the north. Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) is a school district in California, headquartered in Chula Vista, in the South Bay area of San Diego County.
Rapid is the brand name given to the bus rapid transit system in San Diego County, California. The system serves nearly half the county, operating mainly on the HOV lanes on Interstates 15 and 805, with most of the stops also served by other routes. In addition, there are stations, dubbed as CenterLine in the medians of Interstate 15, Park Boulevard in San Diego and on East Palomar Street in Chula Vista, that are designed in a similar manner to the light rail stations. The system operates with a dedicated fleet, although buses from the Mainline fleet are regularly substituted. The system is administered, built and managed by San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and is operated as part of the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS).
Greg Cox is an American politician and businessman from San Diego, California. He served as a member of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for District 1 from 1995-2020. He is a member of the Republican Party, but has also been endorsed by prominent local Democratic politicians. He was not eligible to run in the 2020 election due to term limits. He was succeeded by Democrat Nora Vargas.
Rancho del Otay Airfield was a private runway in Chula Vista, California on Rancho del Otay. Industrialist Stephen Birch owned and built Rancho del Otay on 29,000 acre of land just west of the Lower Otay Reservoir. The land Stephen Birch purchased in 1939 was part of the vast Rancho Otay. Stephen Birch died in 1940 and his daughter Mary inherited 11 acres of Rancho del Otay. Mary had a large cattle and agricultural ranch on the land, first called Otay Agricultural Corporation and later United Enterprises. Mary ferried US built planes to England during World War 2 and built a short runway on here land. Mary Birch married Patrick R. Patrick in 1955 and moved into the Spreckels hunting lodge. Patrick was a retired wing commander in the Royal Air Force. In 1984 Mary donated land to the Chula Vista Community Hospital, now the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. After Mary Birch death on November 20, 1983, the ranch was purchased in 1988 by the Baldwin Company for development. Mary's estate was in San Diego County probate court case for years. In the end the land was divided to relatives, friends, and former employees. The airfield abandoned and now surrounded by homes. The airfield is located east of the intersection of Otay Lakes Drive & Woods Road.
