The Steel Wheels are an Americana roots and folk-rock band based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Their current lineup includes Trent Wagler, Eric Brubaker, Jay Lapp, Kevin Garcia, and Jeremy Darrow. Since 2012, they have hosted the Red Wing Roots Music Festival, held each summer at Natural Chimneys Park and Campground in Mt. Solon, Virginia. The band’s most recent full-length release is their 2024 album Sideways. [1]

Biography

The band’s origins date back to 2005, when former Eastern Mennonite University students Trent Wagler, Eric Brubaker, Jay Lapp, and Brian Dickel began performing together. [1] Originally a traditional string band showcasing original folk material penned by Wagler, The Steel Wheels have since expanded their sonic palette to include elements of bluegrass, gospel, blues, pop, country, and rock. [2] In 2017, Kevin Garcia joined the band on drums and percussion. [3] Later, Jeremy Darrow replaced bassist Brian Dickel, who departed to become a co-owner of Huss & Dalton Guitars in Staunton, VA. Red Wing Roots Music Festival

Since 2012, The Steel Wheels have hosted the Red Wing Roots Music Festival at Natural Chimneys Park in Mt. Solon, Virginia. The festival is well-regarded for its diverse lineup of Americana artists and its family-friendly atmosphere. [6] Notable acts that have performed at Red Wing Roots include Old Crow Medicine Show, Robert Randolph, The Mavericks, Sarah Jarosz, Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle & the Dukes, The Del McCoury Band, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Punch Brothers, Lake Street Dive, and Dawes. Romantica are an Americana band formed in 2002 by Ben Kyle. The band's members, past and present, have come from the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Mixing together elements of folk, rock, and Americana, Romantica creates a rich and unique sound. The original line-up consisted of Kyle, Luke Jacobs, Mark Hedlund (drums) and Christopher Becknell (violin). While the group's members and contributors have changed over the years, Kyle's vision, vocals and songwriting have been the consistent thread throughout the different iterations. To date, the band has recorded four albums.

Huss & Dalton Guitar Company is an acoustic guitar and banjo manufacturer in Staunton, Virginia. The company was started on October 1, 1995, by luthiers Jeff Huss and Mark Dalton. Their first shop was located in the Mennonite community of Stuarts Draft, Virginia. They moved to their current location in Staunton in 1999. According to the company, the founders wanted to build an acoustic guitar that paid homage to guitar tradition while incorporating improvements in structural design and cosmetics. The company currently operates on a small scale, producing around 250 instruments per year in a two-story brick workshop.
