The Tartan or The Tartan: Radford University News is a student-run newspaper published weekly for readers in and around Radford University in Radford, Virginia. Its function is to provide the students and faculty of Radford University, as well as the residents of the surrounding city of Radford, with news pertaining to the university and surrounding community. The paper is circulated every Tuesday (Tartan Tuesdays) as part of their bi-weekly newspaper, and is the most widely circulated publication in the town of Radford.[citation needed] The paper was first published in January 1921.[citation needed]
History
The Tartan was originally named The Grapurchat. Its first issue was four pages, featured one picture, and detailed a cocktail party which had happened the week before. In 1978, The Grapurchat rebranded to The Tartan and its staff has now grown to include an Editor in Chief, a Managing Editor, a Section Editor, three Copy Editors, five staff writers, and a WebmasterThe Tartan has a weekly circulation of 4,000.
The Tartan utilizes the RU Student Media's in-house advertising agency, SMADS, to gather and design advertisements which it uses as its main stream of revenue. The paper nets about $2,100 a week in ad revenue alone.[citation needed]
In March 2011, The Tartan launched a WordPresswebsite to complement the print form of the publication. The website features a mix of articles published in the weekly issues of the paper, but also plays host to content uploaded throughout the week that does not get published in the weekly Wednesday editions.[citation needed]

The Harvard Crimson is the student newspaper of Harvard University and was founded in 1873. Baltimore City Paper was a free alternative weekly newspaper published in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, founded in 1977 by Russ Smith and Alan Hirsch. The most recent owner was the Baltimore Sun Media Group, which purchased the paper in 2014 from Times-Shamrock Communications, which had owned the newspaper since 1987. It was distributed on Wednesdays in distinctive yellow boxes found throughout the Baltimore area. The paper folded in 2017, due to the collapse of advertising revenue income to print media. The College Tribune is a student newspaper which serves Ireland's largest third level institution, University College Dublin. It was established in 1989 with the assistance of journalist and broadcaster Vincent Browne who was attending the university as an evening student at the time. Browne noted the campus' lack of a news outlet which was independent of both the university and University College Dublin Students' Union and alongside founding editor Eamon Dillon set up the Tribune to correct this. Initially, a close working relationship was maintained between the Tribune and the Sunday Tribune which was at the time edited by Browne. This relationship afforded the paper the use of professional production facilities in its fledgling years. Ultimately however, the student newspaper would outlast its national weekly counterpart with the Sunday Tribune having ceased publication in 2011. The College Tribune is UCD's oldest surviving newspaper having been published continuously for over 30 years.

The Temple News (TTN) is the editorially independent weekly newspaper of Temple University. It prints 6,000 copies to be distributed primarily on Temple's Main Campus every Tuesday. A staff of 25, supported by more than 150 writers, is responsible for designing, reporting and editing the 20-page paper. Increasingly, TTN is supplementing its weekly print product with breaking news and online-only content on its web site. In September 2007, TTN launched Broad & Cecil, its own blog community.
