The Well Pennies are an American folk-pop music duo, formed in 2011. The band consists of husband-and-wife Bryan and Sarah Vanderpool.
The Well Pennies were formed in Northborough, Massachusetts, later relocating to Los Angeles, California, and eventually to Des Moines, Iowa. Bryan and Sarah met at a coffee shop in Northborough, where Sarah was working. They started out occasionally supporting each other's solo acts, before deciding to form The Well Pennies. [1] The band name comes from a line in the Tom Waits song "The Fall of Troy", where he sings, "The well is full of pennies." [2]
The Well Pennies released their debut self-titled EP in 2012. [1] The following year, their version of "All My Loving", a reworking of the 1964 song as a ballad, was featured on The Beatles covers album, Beatles Reimagined, which also includes cover versions by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Leftover Cuties, and others. They released their debut full-length album, Endlings, on January 27, 2015, featuring acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmonies, with the up-tempo lead single "Drive". [4] The single was inspired by a road trip the Vanderpools took when moving from Boston to Los Angeles. [2] The Endlings track "The Echo & the Shadow" is the closing theme for the Spanish television talk show En la tuya o en la mía. [5] Billboard magazine columnist Gary Trust named Endlings one of his top three albums of 2015. [6]
In October 2015, The Well Pennies performed in Anchorage, Alaska, alongside the Anchorage Youth Orchestra which spurred a series of shows where the band collaborated with youth orchestras. [7] The Well Pennies were also the opening act for Diana Krall for part of her "Turn Up The Quiet World Tour". [8]
The Well Pennies relocated to Des Moines in the summer of 2016 after 7 years in Los Angeles and started the record label and recording studio, Golden Bear Records. They signed Boston-based artist Kaiti Jones and produced the album Vows, which was released November 17, 2017. [9]
The Well Pennies sophomore LP, Murmurations was released on February 25, 2019, featuring the single Ooh La La, which No Depression called "...folk/pop perfection". [10] The album's second single and music video, Oh My Blue Sky was premiered by Billboard Magazine which described it as "...the joyful, try-not-to-handclap-along-you-can't 'Oh My Blue Sky' from Murmurations." The band explained, "The song was written as an encouragement for when we're feeling discouraged or worried or just struggling while we try to figure out who we are and what place we have in the world." During the early months of the 2020 pandemic, the band posted regular videos of cover songs, requested from fans. On October 30, they released Covers, the band's 3rd full-length album. Covers was included in several "best of" lists, including from No Depression. "...The song choices are delightfully quirky and delightfully rendered, tied together only by Sarah and Bryan Vanderpool’s evident love for each selection and ability to take each somewhere surprising." [12] The music video for Stressed out featured masked ballet dancers in popular New York City tourist locations, subsequently deserted due to the COVID-19 pandemic shut down.
"Strawberry Fields Forever" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. It was released on 13 February 1967 as a double A-side single with "Penny Lane". It represented a departure from the group's previous singles and a novel listening experience for the contemporary pop audience. Tiffany Renee Darwish, known mononymously as Tiffany, is an American pop singer. Her 1987 cover of the Tommy James and the Shondells song "I Think We're Alone Now" spent two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was released as the second single from her debut studio album Tiffany.
Matthew Adam Nathanson is an American singer-songwriter whose work is a blend of folk and rock and roll music. In addition to singing, he plays acoustic and electric guitar, and has played both solo and with a full band. His work includes the platinum-selling song "Come On Get Higher". One of his hit songs, "Giants", was the opening music for the 2016 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas on ESPN.

Sarah Dash was an American singer. She first appeared on the music scene as a member of Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles. Dash was later a member of Labelle, and worked as a singer, session musician, and sidewoman for The Rolling Stones, and Keith Richards.
"Ooo Baby Baby" is a song written by Smokey Robinson and Pete Moore. It was a 1965 hit single by The Miracles for the Tamla (Motown) label.
"Desperado" is a soft rock ballad by the American rock band the Eagles. The track was written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley, and appeared on the 1973 album Desperado as well as numerous compilation albums. Although it was never released as a single, it became one of Eagles' best-known songs. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Yesterday and Today is a studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. Released in the United States and Canada in June 1966, it was their ninth album issued on Capitol Records and twelfth American release overall. Typical of the Beatles' North American discography until 1967, the album contains songs that Capitol had withheld from its configurations of the band's recent EMI albums, along with songs that the group had released elsewhere on non-album singles. Among its 11 tracks are songs from the EMI albums Help! and Rubber Soul, and three new 1966 recordings that would appear on Revolver in countries outside North America.
"Pleasant Valley Sunday" is a song by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, recorded and released by the Monkees in the summer of 1967. Inspired by their move to West Orange, New Jersey, and named for a street there, Goffin and King wrote the song about their dissatisfaction with life in the suburbs.

Awolnation is an American rock band from Los Angeles, formed and fronted by Aaron Bruno, formerly of Under the Influence of Giants, Home Town Hero, and Insurgence. The band is signed to Better Noise Music, formerly being signed to Red Bull Records. Their first EP, Back from Earth, was released on iTunes on May 18, 2010. They released their first studio album, Megalithic Symphony, on March 15, 2011; it featured their most notable hit, "Sail", which peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 4 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, and number 5 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. On June 14, 2021, Sail became just the 57th song to be certified diamond by the RIAA and has sold 10,000,000 copies in the United States. As of February 29, 2016, the album has been certified platinum.
"Apache" is a song written by Jerry Lordan and first recorded by Bert Weedon. Lordan played the song on ukulele to the Shadows while on tour and, liking the song, the group released their own version which topped the UK Singles Chart for five weeks in mid-1960. The Shadows' guitarist Hank Marvin developed the song's distinctive echo and vibrato sound. After hearing the Shadows' version, Danish guitarist Jørgen Ingmann released a cover of the song in November 1960 which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
"My Body" is a 2010 song by American alternative rock band Young the Giant from their eponymous debut album. Written by the band and released as a single in 2011, it peaked at number five on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and number 65 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Young the Giant performed "My Body" at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and the song was featured in NHL 15.
"In Your Letter" is a song written by Gary Richrath that was first released on REO Speedwagon's 1980 album Hi Infidelity. It was released as the fourth single from the album and just made the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #20. It also reached #26 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It also had some chart success in Canada, reaching #34.
"Ooh! My Soul", sometimes spelled "Oh My Soul", is a 1958 song by Little Richard. It first appeared on a May 1958 single, then on his eponymous second album. It was subsequently recorded by the Beatles in 1963 for the BBC, and by Big Brother and the Holding Company in 1966.
