Theatre of Sheep was an American new wave band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 1982. They were popular locally but never made the jump to a wider audience. [1] [2] [3]

History

Theatre of Sheep formed in 1980 with a line-up of Rozz Rezabek (formerly of Negative Trend), Jimi Haskett (guitar), Brian Wassman (drums), John (Clifford) Goins (bass) and Lesli Arbuthnot (keyboards). Bassist Jim Wallace then replaced Goins. Their 1983 cassette-only release, A Cathartic Aquacade, was produced and engineered by Greg Sage, leader of Portland punk band the Wipers.

Theatre of Sheep's debut 12" extended play, A Quiet Crusade, was released on their own Sheepish label in 1983, [4] followed by a cassette-only collection, Theatre of Sheep's Greatest Hits. [5]

The band broke up in 1984.

Other projects

Rezabek later released several solo recordings, including the 1999 album Lover Legend Liar, [6] [7] and appeared in the 1998 documentary film Kurt & Courtney .

Legacy and reunions

Theatre of Sheep were documented with the 2006 compilation album Old Flames. [8]

The band reunited for Portland shows at Slabtown in 2007. [3] and the closing of Satyricon in 2010. [9]

Rozz Williams American musician and poet

Rozz Williams was an American musician, poet, artist, and performance artist, most known for his work with the bands Christian Death, Shadow Project, and the industrial project Premature Ejaculation. Christian Death is cited by some as a pioneer of the American gothic rock scene as well as deathrock, and is considered to be one of the most influential figures of the scene. However, Williams disliked the "goth" label and actively worked to shed it during the 1980s and 1990s by focusing on punk rock, hard rock, cabaret, and spoken word music. Williams was also involved with his groups Daucus Karota, Heltir, EXP, Bloodflag, and his own version of Christian Death, along with recording a handful of solo albums. In addition to music, Williams was also an avid painter, poet, and collage artist.

He first achieved success in the mid-1970s as lead vocalist and bassist of Pilot, who scored hits with "Magic", "January", "Just a Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting in 1977. Paton is also known for his work in the original lineup of The Alan Parsons Project (1975-1985), and for working with acts such as Kate Bush, Camel and Elton John.

Arthur Barrow is a multi-instrumental musician, best known for his stint as a bass guitar player for Frank Zappa in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Room were a new wave band from Liverpool formed in late 1979. They released three albums and several singles before breaking up in 1985. Two of the band members went on to form Benny Profane, Dust and Dead Cowboys.

Mach One are a British neo-progressive rock band, founded in 1980 by a group of students attending Burlington Danes High School in West London. After a series of studio demos, school gigs and lineup changes, the band attracted the attention of Keith Goodwin who represented them through 1983-85. During this time Mach One embarked on a series of live shows at pubs and clubs around London, and universities across England, while releasing two albums Six of One and Lost for Words that featured prominently in underground progressive rock fanzines and specialist progressive rock catalogues. However, in the more mainstream press they received mixed reviews for their second album, including a humorous 1-star review by Mary Anne Hobbs in Sounds, although their live show was given a positive write-up in the same paper a few weeks thereafter by journalist Gareth Thompson.

Matia Bazar Italian pop band

Matia Bazar is an Italian pop band formed in Genoa in 1975. The original members of the group were Piero Cassano (keyboards), Aldo Stellita (bass), Carlo Marrale, Giancarlo Golzi (drums) and Antonella Ruggiero (vocals). They represented Italy in the 1979 Eurovision Song Contest with a song called "Raggio di luna". They are known for the quality of their female vocalists: after Antonella Ruggiero, Laura Valente, Silvia Mezzanotte, Roberta Faccani and currently Luna Dragonieri.

Ritual was an early 1980s Harrow-based post-punk band that were later aligned with the early UK-based gothic rock movement. The group is commonly associated with Death Cult, which two Ritual members later joined.

Hubert Leroy "Herbie" Goins was an American rhythm & blues singer. He worked mainly in England in the 1960s, notably with Alexis Korner and then as the leader of Herbie Goins & The Night-Timers. He later continued his career based in Sezze, Italy.
