Then Again is a collection of rarities, remixes and lost songs by former Josef K frontman Paul Haig recorded between 1982 and 1998, including previously unreleased material. Guests include Alan Rankine, Cabaret Voltaire, Mantronik, Bernard Sumner, Donald Johnson of A Certain Ratio and Finitribe.
This compilation is a companion to the 1988 Les Disques Du Crepuscule release, European Sun . There is some duplication of tracks on the two compilations.
Time: B-side of Haig's first single, "Running Away" in 1982.
Chance: Recorded in 1982 but remained unreleased until it was included as the b-side to the "Heaven Help You Now" 12" single.
Blue For You: Released as a 12" dance single on Les Disques Du Crepuscule imprint Interference in 1983. Backing vocals by Giles and Samantha of Hey Elastica!
Change of Heart: Recorded in late 1982 for a proposed album of 12" mixes. This project was abandoned after Haig signed to Island Records.
Fear And Dancing: Recorded for the unreleased Island album sometime in 1984. Produced with Alan Rankine. This track was also included on the European Sun compilation album from 1988.
The Executioner: Collaboration with Cabaret Voltaire recorded in 1984 and at one stage intended for release as a single. This track is also included on the European Sun compilation album from 1988.
Love Eternal (12" Mix): Released in March 1986 on Les Disques Du Crepuscule. Produced with Alan Rankine.
The Only Truth (U.S. Remix): Released as a 12" single on Island Records in October 1984. Jointly produced by New Order stalwart Bernard Sumner and Donald Johnson of A Certain Ratio. Sumner and Johnson also play guitar and percussion respectively.
This Dying Flame (12" Mix): Previously unreleased. Co-produced with Alan Rankine.
Heaven Help You Now (Mantronik Mix): Only previously appeared as an extra track on the "Surrender" CD single in 1993. Additional production and remix by Mantronik in New York City.
Reach The Top and Swinging For You: Recorded in Brussels in September 1987. The third song from this session, "Torchomatic" was released as a 12" single in October 1988. "Reach The Top" was recorded by Billy MacKenzie for The Glamour Chase album, which was not released until after MacKenzie's death.
The Electrician and The Shining: Taken from the Finitribe album Sleazy Listening, recorded in 1998. "The Shining" is dedicated to Billy MacKenzie.
Psycho San Jose: Recorded in Edinburgh in Summer 1987. Previously appeared on the European Sun compilation album from 1988.
The Associates were a Scottish post-punk and pop band, formed in Dundee in 1979 by lead vocalist Billy Mackenzie and guitarist Alan Rankine. The band released an unauthorized cover version of David Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging" as their debut single in 1979, which landed them a recording contract with Fiction Records. They followed with their debut studio album The Affectionate Punch in 1980 and the compilation album Fourth Drawer Down in 1981, both to critical praise.
Cabaret Voltaire were an English music group formed in Sheffield in 1973 and initially composed of Stephen Mallinder, Richard H. Kirk, and Chris Watson. Named for the Zürich nightclub that fostered the early Dada movement, the band are often characterized as among the most innovative and influential electronic acts of their era.
Josef K were a Scottish post-punk band, active between 1979 and 1982, who released singles on the Postcard Records label. The band was named after the protagonist of Franz Kafka's novel The Trial. Although they released just one album while together and achieved only moderate success, they have since proved influential on many bands that followed.
William MacArthur MacKenzie was a Scottish singer and songwriter, known for his distinctive high tenor voice. He was the co-founder and lead vocalist of post-punk and new wave band the Associates. He also had a brief solo career releasing his debut studio album, Outernational, in 1992, his only solo album released during his lifetime.
Paul Haig is a Scottish indie musician, singer and songwriter. He was originally a member of post-punk band Josef K, active between 1979 and 1982.
Anna Domino is an American indie rock artist based in New York and Los Angeles who released several albums for Les Disques du Crepuscule and Factory Records in the 1980s and 1990s. Domino has collaborated with musicians such as Matt Johnson of The The, Stephin Merritt in The Sixths, Blaine L. Reininger and Steven Brown of Tuxedomoon, Virginia Astley, Luc van Acker and Ultramarine. She is also one half of the duo Snakefarm.
Alan Rankine was a Scottish musician and record producer best known as keyboardist and guitarist for rock band the Associates, which he co-founded with lead vocalist Billy Mackenzie in the late 1970s.
Les Disques du Crépuscule is an independent record label founded in Belgium in 1980 by Michel Duval and Annik Honoré. It also had a prominent associated sublabel, Factory Benelux. Both are now run by former employee James Nice.

Blaine Leslie Reininger is an American post-punk, new-wave and alternative pop singer, songwriter, musician, multi-instrumentalist, writer and performer. He is known for being a member of the group Tuxedomoon since 1977 after co-founding it with Steven Brown and, latterly, for a notable music and theatre career, both as a soloist and contributor to other artists' recordings, including the Durutti Column, Snakefinger, Anna Domino, Savage Republic, Paul Haig, William Lee Self's Montanablue project, Devine & Statton and Brown himself.
