Thereza Piloya-Were (also known as Thereza Piloya and Terry Piloya) is an Ugandan paediatrician who specialises in endocrinology and HIV/AIDS. She is Senior Lecturer at the Makerere University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Thereza Piloya was educated at Makerere University,where she got her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree,before getting her Master of Medicine degree in paediatrics in 2010. [1] She started working in the Makerere University Department of Paediatrics and Child Health,where she has worked as a lecturer and a paediatric endocrinologist,and has directed both the Paediatric Endocrinology &Diabetes Unit and the undergraduate programme. [2] She was originally Assistant Lecturer at the department before she was promoted to Senior Lecturer at sometime after 2021. [2] [1] She also was part of the staff at Mulago National Specialised Hospital's Paediatric Endocrinology Clinic when it was founded in 2013. [3]
As an academic,she specialises in paediatric endocrinology and paediatric HIV/AIDS. [3] [1] She has also worked as a John E. Fogarty International Center Global Health Fellow,with her research project on the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and paediatric HIV;her mentors were Sarah Cusick,Richard Idro,and Sabrina Kitaka. [4] Among her achievements include improvements on the treatment of paediatric diabetes,including the provision of clinical mentorship. [3] In August 2021,Piloya told the Nile Post about the increase of precocious puberty due to lockdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda and recommended medical attention for precocious puberty. She is a fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences. [3]

June Kathleen Lloyd,Baroness Lloyd of Highbury,DBE,FRCP,FRCP Edin,FRCGP was a British paediatrician and,in retirement,a cross bench member of the House of Lords. June Lloyd was a determined advocate for children's health and was instrumental in the establishment of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. In 1996,the college gained its royal status. She was also known for discovering that the damage caused to patients by the rare metabolic disease oQ-betalipoproteinaemia,that could be avoided by the use of Vitamin E. She was also known for discovering the role of lipid metabolism in health and disease in childhood,which was original and difficult to investigate at that time.
Makerere University is Uganda's largest and oldest institution of higher learning,first established as a technical school in 1922,and the oldest currently active university in East Africa. It became an independent national university in 1970. Today,Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates. The main administrative block was gutted by fire in September 2020 and the cause of the fire is yet to be established.

Dr. Speciosa Kazibwe is also a Ugandan surgeon. She is also referred to as "Nnalongo",because of her twins. In August 2013,she was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as United Nations Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa.
Frederick Wabwire-Mangen is a Ugandan physician,public health specialist and medical researcher. Currently he is Professor of Epidemiology and Head of Department of Epidemiology &Biostatistics at Makerere University School of Public Health. Wabwire-Mangen also serves as the Chairman of Council of Kampala International University and a founding member of Accordia Global Health Foundation’s Academic Alliance
Nelson Kawulukusi Sewankambo,MBChB,MMed,MSc,FRCP,LLD (Hon),sometimes spelled as Nelson Ssewankambo,is a Ugandan physician,academician,medical researcher,and medical administrator. He is a professor of medicine and former principal of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences,a semi-autonomous constituent college of Makerere University.
David M. Serwadda is a Ugandan physician,medical researcher,academic,public health specialist and medical administrator. Currently he is a Professor of Public Health at Makerere University School of Public Health,one of the schools of Makerere University College of Health Sciences,a semi-autonomous constituent college of Makerere University,the oldest university in Uganda. Serwadda is also a founding member of Accordia Global Health Foundation's Academic Alliance.
Harriet Mayanja-Kizza,MBChB,MMed,MSc,FACP,is a Ugandan physician,researcher,and academic administrator. She is the former Dean of Makerere University School of Medicine,the oldest medical school in East Africa,established in 1924.

Sabrina Bakeera Kitaka,commonly known as Sabrina Kitaka,is a Ugandan physician,pediatrician,pediatric infectious diseases specialist and academic,who serves as a senior lecturer in the Department of Pediatrics at Makerere University School of Medicine.

Grace Ndeezi is a Ugandan female pediatrician and a professor of pediatrics and child health at Makerere University of Health Sciences with over 140 publications in peer-reviewed journals on nutrition,HIV,pneumonia,malaria,sickle cell anemia,diarrheal diseases,neonatal health and child heath interventions,such as immunization,breast feeding and other common childhood diseases. She has collaborated with other faculty and health professionals on three continents,including facilitation in Zimbabwe,Eritrea,and Kenya.
Damalie Nakanjako,is a Ugandan specialist physician,internist,immunologist,infectious diseases consultant,academic and researcher,who serves as the Principal and Professor of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Immediately prior to her present position,she served as Dean of Makerere University School of Medicine,from 2019 until 17 February 2021.
Juliet Sekabunga Nalwanga is a physician from Uganda,who is the country's first female neurosurgeon. As of 2021 she was one of only thirteen neurosurgeons in Uganda. As of 2018 she was employed by Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala.

Liesl Zühlke is a South African cardiologist who specialises in paediatric and rheumatic heart disease. She works at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital as a paediatric cardiologist,and is the only one in her country to serve as a full professor in paediatric cardiology.
