Thiru Krishnamoorthy (born 6 July 1979) is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Tamil cinema. [1] He has directed films such as Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai (2010), Samar (2013) and Naan Sigappu Manithan (2014). [2]

Early life

Career

After assisting A. Rajasekhar in Sathyam (2008), Thiru made his directorial debut with Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai (2010) starring Vishal alongside three lead actresses. The film received mixed reviews and became hit in the box office. [3] After that Thiru again collaborated with Vishal in two films Samar (2013) and Naan Sigappu Manithan (2014). The former dealt with protagonist who unknowingly involved in a dangerous game and the latter dealt with hero suffering from narcolepsy. [4] [5]

In late 2015, Thiru announced a project titled Garuda featuring Vikram and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. [6] [7] The film was set to be produced by Silverline Film Factory and have music composer Girinandh, but the collaboration was later called off. [8]

Personal life

He married Kani Thiru, daughter of film director Agathiyan. The couple have two daughters, Diya and Tashmai. [9]

Samar (transl. War) is a 2013 Indian Tamil-language mystery action-adventure film written and directed by Thiru. It stars Vishal, Trisha and Sunaina, with Manoj Bajpayee and J. D. Chakravarthy appearing in supporting roles. Richard M. Nathan handled the cinematography, while the film's soundtrack and score were composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Dharan Kumar, respectively. Later on, it was dubbed in Hindi as Gabbar Sher in 2016. The story revolves around a trekking guide, who is forced to leave for Bangkok under strange circumstances and witnesses a series of puzzling incidents there. After several delays finally the film was released on 13 January 2013.

Co-produced by Vishal, the film stars himself in the leading role with Lakshmi Menon and Ineya in supporting roles, while G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the film's music. The film deals with narcolepsy. It was released on 11 April 2014, and was declared a commercial success. The film opened to positive reviews from critics, many praising Vishal's performances, screenplay, fast-paced narration, while some criticized its second half, which was apparently vulgar to them.
