Thomas Farnik, born 6 January 1967 in Vienna, is an Austrian rifle shooter.

He was twelve years old when his father introduced him to shooting. He started with a rifle, and his father remained involved with his early training. [1]

He competed at six consecutive Olympics from 1992 to 2012. His best position was fifth in the Three Positions at the 2008 Olympics, when he was 2.8 points behind the bronze medal score of 1271.7. He also came sixth in the 10m Air Rifle at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 50m Three Positions at the 2004 Athens Olympics. [2]

He won gold in the 10m Air Rifle at the 2006 ISSF World Cup, [3] setting a world record of 703.1 at the finals in Granada that survived till 2008 (when it was broken by Gagan Narang). He was part of the Austrian team that won bronze in the 10m Air Rifle [4] and silver in the 300m Three Positions [5] at the 2006 World Championships in Zagreb.

He won gold in the 300 metre standard rifle at the 2006 World Championships. He set the current team world record in that event in September 2008 with Florian Kammerlander and Michal Podolak.

At the European Shooting Championships, he won bronze in the 300m Standard Rifle in 2005, [6] silver in the 300m Standard Rifle in 2007, and silver in the 50m Three Positions in 2009. [7] He was part of the Austrian team 10m Air Rifle teams that won gold in 2005 and 2007, silver in 2006 and bronze in 2000 and 2009. [8] He was also part of the 50m Three Positions teams that won gold in 2003 and 2007 and silver in 2009. [9] He was part of the team that won bronze in the 300m Three Positions in 2009. [10]

He is a soldier in the Austrian army. At the World Military Shooting Championship, he came second in the 300m Standard Rifle Three Position in 2005 [11] and third in the same event in 2007. [12] He came fourth in the rapid fire rifle event in 2001. [13]

Farnik was hired as a technical trainer by the Indian Army Marksmanship Unit for their shooters to compete at international meets. [14]

He is a jogger and mountain biker, and sometimes plays tennis and football. [1]

Benjamin Burge is an Australian sport shooter. Since 2001, Burge had won a total of seven medals in both air and small-bore rifle at the Oceania Shooting Championships. He also captured a bronze medal for the men's 50 m rifle three positions at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, accumulating a score of 1,238.2 points.

Lesia Severynivna Leskiv is a Ukrainian sport shooter. She represented Ukraine in rifle shooting in the Olympic Games in 1996, 2000, and 2004, finishing within the top fifteen in the games. Leskiv also earned four medals at the World Championships, and five more, including three golds, at the European Championships, bringing them up to her remarkable career tally of nine. A full-fledged member of the Lvov Army Forces, Leskiv trained for the shooting club under her personal coach Vadym Vysochyn.

Timothy Quentin Lowndes is an Australian sport shooter. He has competed for Australia in rifle shooting at two Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic final in 2004, finishing twelfth in the rifle three positions. Apart from his Olympic career, Lowndes has won a total of seven medals in a major international competition, spanning two editions of the Commonwealth Games, and the Oceanian Championships. Throughout his sporting career, Lowndes trains full-time under Yugoslav-born head coach and 1976 Olympian Miroslav Šipek of the national team, while he shoots at Townsville Smallbore Rifle Club on the outskirts of Melbourne.

Éva Joó is a Hungarian sport shooter. She has competed for Hungary in rifle shooting at four Olympics, and has been close to an Olympic medal in 1996. Apart from her Olympic career, Joo has successfully produced a career tally of nineteen medals in a major international competition: a gold at the 1990 ISSF World Championships in Moscow, Soviet Union, a total of three at the ISSF World Cup final, a total of nine at various meets of the World Cup series, and a remainder of six under both junior and senior categories at the European Championships since her sporting debut in 1987.

Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. Jeanette Hegg Duestad is a Norwegian sport shooter. Her achievements include winning an individual gold medal in rifle shooting at the 2022 world championships, as well as team gold medals in 2022 and 2023.

The New Zealand Shooting Federation (NZSF) is the governing body for Target Shooting Sports in New Zealand. It holds responsibility for selecting and developing national teams for World Championships, as well as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

The 53rd ISSF World Shooting Championships were held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 14 August to 1 September 2023. They also served as a qualification event for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
