thyssenkrupp Materials Services GmbH (tkMX) is the lead company of the business area of the same name and part of the diversified German industrial group thyssenkrupp AG. Materials Services is a global materials distributor  as well as a technical and infrastructural service provider for the B2B-sector.  The total revenue in the fiscal year 2015/2016 was 11.88 billion Euro. 
thyssenkrupp Materials Services is divided in three so-called business units - Materials Distribution, Supply Chain Services and Special Materials. Over 19,700 employees  work for the 81 Materials Services subsidiaries at around 480 branches in more than 40 countries. 
Main customers are located in Europe and North America.  They are specialist retailers and companies of the automotive sector or the metal processing industry. 
Materials Services runs a Digital Transformation Office (DTO). The DTO forwards the business area’s digitalization goals. The strategy includes a progressive addition of e-commerce models as well as a cultural change to an integral and collaborative work environment. 
The online shop "materials4me" was launched in Great Britain, Germany, Spain and Switzerland in 2016.  The target group of materials4me are do-it-yourselfers, educational institutions as well as small and medium businesses. There are also two B2B-portals. "Materials Services Online-Portal" grants access to order documents, among others, for key accounts.  On the website "onlinelaserworks" customers can upload CAD drawings to have blanks fully automatically cut to size. 
At the Hannover trade fair thyssenkrupp announced the opening of a production center for Additive Manufacturing (3D-printing) in the city Mülheim in 2017. 
In 2017, Materials Services also announced the self-developed platform "toii" in line with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). This system is compatible with old and new machines from different manufactures. The tool should accelerate the automation of the production operations as well as make processes much more efficient. 
Blohm+Voss (B+V), also written historically as Blohm & Voss, Blohm und Voß etc., is a German shipbuilding and engineering company. Founded in Hamburg in 1877 to specialise in steel-hulled ships, its most famous product was the World War II battleship Bismarck. In the 1930s, its owners established the Hamburger Flugzeugbau aircraft manufacturer which, shortly before the outbreak of World War II, adopted the name of its parent company. Following a difficult period after the war, B+V was revived, changing ownership among several owners, as Thyssen Group and Star Capital. In 2016, it became a subsidiary of Lürssen and continues to supply both the military and civilian markets. It serves two areas – new construction of warships as NVL B.V. & Co. KG, and new construction and refitting of megayachts. The company has been in operation, building ships and other large machinery, almost continuously for 146 years.
ThyssenKrupp AG is a German industrial engineering and steel production multinational conglomerate. It is the result of the 1999 merger of Thyssen AG and Krupp and has its operational headquarters in Duisburg and Essen. The company claims to be one of the world's largest steel producers, and it was ranked tenth-largest worldwide by revenue in 2015. It is divided into 670 subsidiaries worldwide. The largest shareholders are Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation and Cevian Capital. The Type 214 is a class of diesel-electric submarine developed by exclusively for export by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW). It features diesel propulsion with an air-independent propulsion (AIP) system using Siemens polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cells. The class combines the design principles of the Type 209 submarine family and the features of the Type 212A submarine. However, as an export design, it lacks some of the classified technologies of the Type 212 such as the non-magnetic steel hull that makes it difficult to detect using a magnetic anomaly detector.
The Shishumar-class submarines are diesel-electric attack submarines, currently in active service with the Indian Navy. These submarines are an Indian variant of the Type 209 submarines developed by the German yard Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft under the internal designation "Type 1500". The first two vessels were built by HDW at Kiel, Germany, while the remainder were built by Mazagon Dock Limited, at Mumbai, India, under a technology transfer agreement. The submarines were commissioned between 1986 and 1994. These submarines have a displacement of 1,660 tons when surfaced, a speed of 22 knots, and a complement of 40 including eight officers.

The Type 039A submarine is a class of diesel-electric submarine in China's People's Liberation Army Navy. It is China's first AIP powered submarine and presumed to be one of the quietest diesel-electric submarine classes in service. This class is the successor of the Type 039 submarine. The official Chinese designation is 039A as the ship is based on the 039 class, but as the 039A has very little resemblance to the 039 it is commonly referred to as the Type 041. The class is designed to replace the aging Type 033 and the older Type 035 submarines that previously formed the backbone of the conventional submarine force.
